THE George’s Cafe Day was held on Sunday 7 August and raised a very successful TL2,644.75 in aid of the Help Those With Cancer Association (Tulips).
The day was incredibly hot but that did not put off the Filipino dancing ladies who performed two cultural dances, much to the delight of the audience.
The area outside George’s Cafe was decked out with six stalls: Pam Schofield with her art work, Auriana Stevens with her plates; Art Watson with EFRAR t-shirts, headbands and more; Susan Fernley with her Silver, Barbara Bewick with hand-crafted wooden items and Linda Miller with her jewellery and plaques.
Music was supplied throughout the day by DJ Malcolm, Rick Legend and Jamie, the Man in Black with them duetting for the last hour of the day much to the delight of a full house. DJ Malcolm
The Abnormals were out in force, raising money via the donation boxes and having their photographs taken with passing tourists.
Mary Watson, Chair of EFRAR 2017 commented: “Even though it was extremely hot and perhaps there were not as many tourists around as we had hoped, it was a very worthwhile venture and we have George and Özlem Ferhatoglu and their staff to thank for their generosity in hosting the event at their cafe and for giving us a cheque for TL1,000”
A great day, albeit a hot one, and our thanks go to Cafe George and staff, Rick Legend, Jamie, The Man in Black, DJ Malcolm, The Abnormals, all stall holders and Girne Belediyesi for the tables.
