THE Esentepe Fun, Run and Ramble 2014, in conjunction with Telsim and Turkcell are teaming up to help raise money for TULIPS (Help Those With Cancer).
For the period 1 March to 6 April 2014, any subscriber to either Telsim or Turkcell will be able to send a blank text to the dedicated Tulips number of 4171 and 5TL will automatically be donated to the charity and added to the subscribers’ phone bill.
All monies raised during this initiative will be added to the Esentepe Fun, Run and Ramble 2014 running total so the committee are very optimistic that, with the backing of the public, the eventual amount raised will surpass last year’s final total.
Chairman of the committee, Art Watson, said: “We didn’t really get this idea off the ground last year, for various reasons, but this year, with the commitment and support of both Telsim and Turkcell, this is expected to be a fantastic boost to the funds and a simple way for people to donate and I would urge everyone to be take part.”

Are Turkcell and Telsim going to notify their customers off this? Maybe it would be a good idea if the give the notification in both Turkish and English!!!

Hopefully they will but I will ask Tulips to follow this through.

Just heard - 'some' Roots Ramblers members objected to this being posted on their forum (forum - meeting or medium for an exchange of views (sic)) site and demanded it be removed. Profound shame on your narrow-minded attitude; this initiative intends to raise money for a cancer charity, but if it so offends you - your demand has deeply incensed me and I did not post it. How you treat volunteers (and likely sufferers) for a worthy cause staggers me!!! - I hope the disease never affects you and your close ones, as you may then have cause to reflect on your unreasonable action. Incidentally, I have walked with this group this year and live but 10 minutes from the Roots Bar. Will I do so again - rhetorical question! Another member for the Esentepe group will soon appear.

I'm really disappointed to hear this news as I am a member of the Roots Ramblers and also Chairman of The Esentepe Fun Run Committee .I have the greatest respect for RR and together with other members of the Fun Run committee have enjoyed many happy hours walking our dogs in their company.

Assuming this post is correct I am more than happy to listen to any constructive complaints or criticism

On behalf of the Esentepe Fun Run and Ramble Committee I wish to make it clear that comments made on this forum do not represent the views of anyone included in the organisation of the EFRAR .We very much appreciate that members of the Roots Ramblers had previously donated to Tulips and we are very grateful for this.

I posted the comment on the narrow-minded attitude of some Roots Ramblers (RR) members regarding the initiative designed to make money for a worthy charity and maintain my stance. I am not connected with the organisation of either organisation, nor do I intend to do so. However, this is a forum and as such, I will give my opinion on issues as and when I feel the need. A moderator can, and indeed should, remove any of my posts if they fall outside of the rules. I well understand the need for others to distance themselves from my comment if they are involved in the organisation of the Esentepe event - that is their prerogative and is probably the correct political stance to take. Incidentally, I spoke last evening with 2 RR members who were staggered to hear some of their fellow members had taken such a view as to require the original post to be withdrawn. Enough from me on this subject. Folks, just text the number and help to raise money for cancer sufferers.

As a supporter of Tulips and a volunteer for NCCCT, I couldn't believe what I just read. I have just text my first text, it won't be the last! Come on every Kibkomer what is 5tl?

I am a supporter because I am a survivor and it is a cause close to my heart or should I say my boob! 15 years on and still here.

out of 5TL that will be deducted from customers, how much is going to be actually given to Tulips. Turkcell and Telsim agreed to transfer 100% of the funds?

Last time I spoke to them about something similar, I was told that government charges them so they can only give us 40% of the money and keep 60%!!!

I will advertise this around if somehow a deal is made and all of the money will actually end up at tulips...

The offer is from 1 Mar - 6 Apr. Kemal, not sure what the payment details are. Perhaps the Committee can re-contact the providers to ascertain this information, if they are prepared to divulge the breakdown and the Committee are prepared to release it. However, even if it is only 40%, that is better than zilch!

I will clarify the terms and conditions with Tulips and get back to everyone.

The EFRAR committee were not involved with the original set up of this initiative but are obviously very supportive.
