ATTENTION - What the hell can I do this evening?

I'm going to try and save everyone a bunch of time...

I've only lived in North Cyprus for a short period of time up to now, and I absolutely love it!!
But quite often I've found it relatively difficult to figure out what's going on around the place.
I've also spoken to a few business owners who have found that there is no one-stop-shop
to tell everyone they've got an event going on. I've already missed probably half a dozen
things that I would have liked to go to, simply because I didn't realise they were on until
afterwards!!

What I want to do is gather up all the info on exactly what's going on in and around
the North Cyprus expat community and make it all available in one place…

Initially I thought of doing a website. But in my experience, people don't even know they
actually want to do something until they've heard about it! So I've decided to keep things
very easy and rely on a simple email mailing list detailing all the events that are going on
for that particular week!

Firstly I need to make sure this is actually worth doing, and for that to happen I need as
many registered users as I can!

If I get, lets say a 1000 readers I think it is probably viable enough idea, and I'll go
ahead and compile the first email in any way I can! It probably won't be perfect at first, but
once I get the ball rolling I think it will be a very useful source of info for everyone.

So.. If people are genuinely interested in a simple email once a week telling them what's
going on then please, please click on the link below and it'll add you to the list!

Cheers!

Oh, and P.S. Tell your friends and get them to register The more, the better of course!!

KibKom has an events and a calendar, so why not use that with its 3000 almost members, there should be al the info you want. all it needs is or members to fill t in, an you have all your answers on this one forum. That's what we are here for -to inform and help, but it isdown to te members to keep it up o date and truly helpful.

Well said Marion. Not only does Kibkom have an Events Calendar it also has the Events Page which many members are using - this page infact, lol. The Kibkom General Forum itself is also a very good place to get latest updates as to what is happening in Northern Cyprus. We are now coming up to 3000 members, this being achieved through expensive campaigning and marketing as well as excellent moderating. There are plans in the pipeline to broaden our services and hope that our members stay to help Kibkom grow.

So we have an Events page and an Events Calendar and Kibkom also has the following: Chat, Games , Photo Gallery of the TRNC, a Buisness Directory of over 7,000 listed businesses, a Telehone Directory of over 90,000 listed people living in the TRNC, Weather Forcasts, Exchange Rates......

I'd say Kibkom already is a good One Stop Shop.

We have never begged nor used other forums to gain members, it just would not be right.

Thank you 'boss' for saying it as it is. I think you have done wonders to achieve all you have since april, and although i give you the praise, it is really the members for without them there would be no KibKom, and it would not be full of helpful, kind, caring, sharing people. some have strong opinions (well, so do I I guess) but that is part of the colours of Kibkom.

And don't forget, Kibkomers if you want something to do on the 16th October, you can come to the brunch where soner and Aykut Hilmi will be grilled by anyone who goes. The other grilling will be the excellent food as a brunch. All fofr 40tl . Book through me, or The Hut or Heartbeat.

Now there IS something to do. Not evening though, so you can pack in something else then. The Brunch at Jasmine court Hotel is at noon.

But of course, you must be made to bear all!!! Deep searching questions about your past - a grilling of the hottest order so that truth is revealed. The truth of how the poor lad felt in 1974 - expanding on some of the thoughts in the book! Starting to feel uncomfortable? Oh don't, because I am sure the MC will be ever so kind.

Hey Marions and Soner. Apologies for the late reply..

Yes there are websites / forums such as Kibkom as you've pointed out with events calendars that provide coverage for the members of the kibcom forum. But apart from the papers there doesn't seem to be any reasonably complete agenda as to what's going on in electronic form.

I would say though that C2D is certainly the most reliable source of listings available as far as I can see. The power of a mailing list as opposed to a website or a newspaper is that pretty much everyone will check their emails a few times a week and not everyone will buy C2D (especially for 4Tl ). Not everyone will think of visiting a website either unless they go out of their way to find out what's happening.

I've had about 60 signups so far in a few days, which doesn't seem too bad based on the minimal effort I've put into getting the idea out. So as an early barometer, people might be interested.

Thanks a lot for your opinions

Just another personal opinion as an 'old classical fogey' - most of the events are ofno interest tome whatsoever as a person, and the thought of getting a list of things of no interest is a waste of time not only to me but to the sender. and I reckon there are a lot of old fogey's like me. Maybe you should be aiming your enquiries to the universities where there are young people who might like to go out in the evening to hear some musicians, or what have you.

Just a thought!

Me? Oh a nice meal with friends and a chat, or a good concert, or opera (but I recognise that it doesn't really excist here as in my London days ), but mainly it is people that matter to me.

good luck, but.....

Soner & Marion - agree with all your responses. I have not even got over to TRNC yet but I still love to browse all of KibKom. From reading your forums I have read so much since I joined in September and caught up on local topics and general information both past and present. The forums have helped me (from my distance from you) to decide almost 100% that I want to move to TRNC as opposed to several other countries I was considering. I have had a good overview on what's what over there and feel there is enough to offer me and my hubby to have a quality of lifestyle again amongst like minded people. Cannot wait to come over & see in for real.

Marion you are not an old fogey, but a good genuine person. Maybe I can help you and Soner administratively on KibKom once I have moved over? I cannot abide having nothing to do and would like to contibute to something worthwhile, so Kibkom fits the bill.

Keep up the brilliant work
