Since another thread was untimely cut off I have to start another.

Personally I dont see comments on markets as gossip - I find them very useful information since I simply dont have time to visit them all, and need to know (a) whether they sell what I want

(b) whether they are accessible to someone with mobility problems

(c) whether I can take my dogs. I dont actually want to take the dogs into the market - three ar too many and they would distract me, one of them has a constantly waggly tail at a height which is somewhat dangerous for stalls, and anyway food smells are unfair to them. However I do patronise markets where I can tie them up or leave them in the car close enough to check them frequently and hear if they bark or cry.

(d) and of course to save wasted journey, particularly if they are at a distance ,if they are closed for whatever reason.

So please keep helpful comments on the markets coming.

is someone in charge of market/boot sales??? who has all the scoop on this topic? can you please post it? when(day and time), where(clear directions). I found 3 on the same day. and i recall being told that one of the three was on a different day. since everything in cyprus is expensive, these markets are great. "spending the gas" well we enjoy the "tour" of the country while we explore or try to find our way. all the markets have variety which is awesome. its just the price i dont agree with and wonder why that price?

Hi, I can give you some information regards the traditional carboot which is held every Sunday from 8am-12pm next to Pine bay hotel on the borders of karaoglanoglu/Alsancak. The booters arrive from 7am and sell anything from household goods to clothes, dvd, tools, plants and much more. We also have the BBQ on from 8am serving bacon butties, burgers, hot dogs, tea,coffee and soft drinks. Very pleasant atmosphere with lots of smiley faces

I don't know them all, as they spring up and disappear, but some go on welll. What I do know is:

1. Pine Boot as explained above.
2. Saturday morning, Lmaboussa, Lapta lots of stalls, currently indoors due to weather, but in the summer outside. starts around 8a.m. I think and finishes around 1p.m.
3. sunday morninng - soyz Bar (if still running) on main road at Catalkoy, pretty much the same time as otheers , early until 1p.m.
4. there is one at Esentepe, which has a posting somewhere else here, either Saturday or sunday.
5. Bamboo Market just off the road to merit Hotel, Alsancak, again Sunday morning . drive along the coast road and you will see a sign directing you down , it has balloons hanging on the sign.

I was told the Bamboo market was open on a Wednesday as well. Is it true?.

Erols restaurant, indoors market at Okankoy. It is on a Saturday and opens 8am until 3.30pm. I believe it is behind the Mosque.

YES abundant information about boot sales- LOVE IT. I was sure there must be sales on saturdays but where. And I know of the STOREs ( behind SOYz bar and the other in Alsancak). Any others? My husband caught on the radio about a secondhand store that even sold secondhand cars- anyone know about this? Thank you again for the info!

What a lovely lot of info! As to Bamboo, they did say on a Wednesday as well,but as I understand it (and perhaps someone can confirm) it is waiting for the better weather before it starts up again (I think it ran for a week or two, but the bad weather stopped 'play'.

I believe there are some other new markets as well as Erols. does anyone have informaiton on them??? Oh ye,s one is Stevies Bar somewhere????

Hi Marions. Stevies Bar old coast road Kucuk Erenkoy have a table sale once a month and an Auction once a month. The bar is closed at the moment as they enjoy a well earned holiday. It will all commence in March and I will publish the dates as soon as known

I searched and gathered as much information as I can about these fantastic places. I haven't gone to confirm yet; But, here is more (apart from the information provided above) and to answer a question or two:
1. The CATALKOY/SUNDAYS: around Soyz Bar, sales are still running (Thanx to the appearance of it from the main road, it is the place that started all this frenzy for me and where I was told of KIBKOM ) I do not know who runs it. They sell mostly secondhand items, clothes, crafts, snacks (delicious), etc. I do not know the times but I get there as early as 8 to shop around.
2.(?) ESENTEPE/SUNDAY: Cengiz Bar, Alkan Holiday Village, starts at 10am.
3.(?) FAMAGUSTA/ ?: next to Oztem Petrol, opposite Salamis Bay Hotel. 12pm-3pm.
4.(?) KARAKUM/?: left of Tanner's...????
There are also secondhand stores: 1 is behind Soyz Bar and another in Alsancak. "KAR" is supposed to have secondhand things too. I found this information browsing through NORTH CYPRUS sites, it would just be nice to have 1 place to find everything, just my thought.

Hi. If anyone knows the answers or interested:
1. I read there was going to be a market in Lemar Parking lot, I think in Catalkoy? When (day/time) and where (to be sure)?
2. I found the thread before and now I cannot find it; What are the directions to the Chateau Lamboussa market (why no signs like bamboo beach)?
and if anyone is interested, I saw a sign for a market at the Lodge in Catalkoy, Sundays.

The Esentepe Sunday Market at Cengiz's is only fortnightly. Saying that its on this week.
Beautiful location (by the sea), and they do a fabulous Carvery on a Sunday for 20tl.

Wednesdays & Saturdays at Lemar in CATALKOY they have outside market!
Great to get all your food and goods shopping in one convenient and affordable time and place.

Plus, if you are hungry/thirsty, there is a café inside to sit and enjoy.

And not forgetting the new Olive Paradise Market which starts at 10.00 every Friday.

Thats just off of the Lapta turn-off, before the Lapida Hotel.

Bring your swimwear and use the pool !!!

Is Erol's still operating I heard it only lasted a couple of weeks???

I haven't seen or heard anything; but I passed by today for something else and it was empty parking lot and closed doors.

a good point about the sign, Corona, and it 'bugs' me too, but unfortunatley I am not sure who has the authority to remove the signs. They were Al's, and so I guess they techniclaly now belong to the Doctor who owns the site. Do you think one of us should be daring and collapse the signs and put them by the side of the road. They ARE misleading and for those who don't know what has happened, they can drive down to the sea to be met by two large, padlocked metal gates.

So what should we do. Would it be regarded as trespass. I would do it but think I need some help, cos Him Downstairs cannot stand without his crutche,s let alone move a sign, and I must get my white trousers dirty! (apart from probably not physically able to do it).

So, who will join me and who dares! Or should I write to al and ask him, as they ARE his signs.

Thanks Marions, someone should. I went to take a look at stalls since I was in the area one weekend. I was met up with 2 other cars heading the same way till we met 2 large locked metal gates. we made U-turns in the corner, and split our ways. I was told yesterday that the bamboo market was then permanently closed. wow

Lemar in Alsancak. Mondays 10a.m. to 3p.m. and Fridays 6p.m. to 10p.m.

Pine Bay will re open in early September, Sunday mornings from 7am for buyers, until 2pm. Awaiting info re opening date.

Originally thought to be 15th Septembe,r but , as you say, awaiting confirmation.

The carboot is back on the 15th sept @ next to Pine Bay hotel, boarders of Karaoglanoglu/Alsancak.

Pine bay sunday boot fair doesn't close at 11 its 1 o clock .

We don't get there till 11 because its a long drive for us . But its worth the drive for the great burgers and see some nice friendly faces .

Olive Paradise has stopped now (Fridays).

And Esentepe (Cengiz's Restaurant), has started up on alternate Sundays. This Sunday its on, combined with his Carvery.

Olive Paradise seems to open and close a lot.
Thanks Metin, I was wondering about Cengiz's, but I wasn't sure about the facts.
Also, does anyone have a number for Wendy?? I just tried calling the number I posted and someone else, who doesn't speak English answered me and was clueless of who wendy was.
