Hi I am looking for someone, person or company, to lay a weedproof membrane and cover the area with gravel in my garden before the weather gets too hot.
I will need the area sprayed first with weed killer, I have the chemicals and a big sprayer. Care will be needed as the area is bounded with a mature hedge.
The house is located in Zeytinlik and I estimate the area is 10 mtrs by 4 mtrs.
Access is good to barrow the gravel from the drive. The area is clear of any debris but may have some weeds coming through at this time of year.

Hello Kibkom folk, I have had an interesting quote for the work I need doing from a gentleman called Sal,
He seems to think it will take 2 days and cost nearly 1000TL to lay and membrane and 2-3 cubic meters of gravel in a garden with easy access?
The area is about 3-4mtrs by 10mtrs.
Just want to stop the rain from splashing the soil on to the house.
Will need week spaying as well but I have the chemical and spray and can get this done.
The area is fairly clear and already well compacted and flat as it is and could be fully cleared before the work starts.
This is not a drive and the area is low traffic, people only
Any coments from people who have used or have knowledge of this gentleman and the price quoted?

It would all depend on what depth and how much tonnage you have the gravel laid, a thin layer well not really be any good even if you spray weed killer how may tons has he quoted you ?
To give you an example my Guy charged me 1200 TYL to supply 23 tons of gravel, covered an area of about 40 square meters at a depth of about 125mm, including laying membrane, he also had to transfer the stones about 35mts it took him & a mate 2 days, I did help by raking the gravel (this was to make sure it was to a depth i required)

I understand it is advisable to lay a coat of lime just below and just above the membrane to discourage weed growth. No amount of gravel will stop weeds and after time there will be enough dirt above the membrane (windblown sand, decomposed leaf matter etc.) to let weeds grow freely.

Thanks guys, I am just really looking to cover the bare earth, I understand the problems with weeds so wonder if it is worth using a membrane at all? I am happy to spray on a regular basis in the grwing season.
I guess that I will need 5cm depth max, do not want it too deep as it will be soft to move things on over
I estimate an area of 40sq mtrs to be covered, so estimated a max of 3 cubic meters of gravel but do not know how that equates to tons?.
Hence my estimate of less than a days work.

I recommend that you fit the membrane to stop the weeds, it will help a lot. The work will take about one day to complete.

bestdreams, what type of membrane, ie the brown or black with small holes in, or the clear plastic sheeting?

1 cubic mtr of gravel approx 1 1/4 tonnes

What sort of cost per square is the black plasic membrane that is being mentioned just to buy?
People say it is better than the permeable membranes?
Will it not puddle when we have heavy rain?
Where can these types of membrane be bought?

How 188 , 1 am in my sixtys and have just laid 22 tons of gravel with a membrane by myself so instead of spending money give it a try .
