Thanks for the info i use Chromecast well and to advantage and also use a WD live Tv box as well and both useful BUT was interested if any one managed to get Sky Go here, what with the slow internet speed, which is made slower by using a VPN and maybe with the skill of sky, stopping it as well

Hi Alan
are you getting Sky Go here and if so can you email me so we can chat more, as that's what im after and if you already get on your laptop then you can cast it to your TV via chromecast, which is what i am interested in trying, but not sure about the internet speed and VPN causing to much lose of speed for downloading and enough watching Sky Go

I appreciate that the other poster may get back to you , but why not simply try it for yourself?

You can try a 1 month subscription for very little cash, and find out if it works in your location, which is the main thing!

If Sky-Go works, then 'casting' it via chromecast or any other means, is your next issue...

p.s. I've tried Sky-Go, a few years ago, but at that time, they did severely limit the availability of some programmes... - not bothered with it since!

Hi Chris, I still pay for the full sky package in uk , I get sky go on my laptop via my passwords and through Hdmi cable can then show on the TV, occasional buffering depends on time of day.You still need to get vpn though to recieve it as you get a London or Manchester location .Check out vpn sites on internet some are free or you can pay for monthly subscription but still cheap.Alan

Sky, Netflix etc.. with Chromecast possible ? Simple Yes! But a bit tricky..

First Problem: Chromecast does not support a VPN.. even if you use your computer (what is connected to a VPN) . Your computer just send a streaming link to your chromecast.
Solution:
a) Get a UK-VPN from Multimax for free.
b) Step 1: get a smart DNS ( recommend this one https://goo.gl/kq4nJ5) (about 20 GBP for a year, VPNs are more expensive, and much much slower)
Step 2: put a DNS-Rewrite in your router. So your router will change all DNS - Requests for google chromecast (DNS 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) to the Smart DNS you got in Step one.
Step 3: change the standard router DNS to the Smart DNS from step 1
all done.. enjoy Netflix, Sky, HBO, Amazon Instant and much more..

If you don't use a chromecast, its less complicated.. for example at Android Box, Computers, Apple Tv.. you can change the DNS in the settings without changing the router.

Info: Not all routers are supported for DD-WRT (DNS Rewrite) you can check at: http://www.dd-wrt.com if your model is supported.

Tutorial for Step 2!!
1,-Navigate to the DD-WRT website and download and install firmware for you router. All the information to do this is on their website.
2,-Open router settings and set the Network Address Server Setings (DHCP) to the SMART DNS servers (step 1) (Sample :XXX.XXX.XX.XX, XXX.XXX.XX.XX)
3,-Click on the administration tab and then the commands tab. Cut and paste the following commands into the window. Be sure to hit the save startup and save firewall buttons.

iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -d 8.8.8.8 -j DNAT --to-destination XXX.XXX.XX.XX
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -d 8.8.4.4 -j DNAT --to-destination XXX.XXX.XX.XX

(REPLACE THE XXX.XXX.XX.XX WITH THE DNS FROM STEP 1)

In general Smart DNS is mostly the better solution. VPNs can be very slow.
Any questions? Just ask

Of course everyone has different ways to do things.I find that SkyGo programmes are best downloaded to avoid any buffering. If you have DDWRT on your router with a paid for VPN service it's very easy to change the IP address/server
should you encounter bad buffering.
I very rarely change the VPN IP address unless I want to watch US TV programmes or Netflix USA.
The speeds for the VPN should be adequate .All my devices are routed through a VPN with no problems.

I tried this, basically it's s**t, you also can only watch it on your device, not large screen,as sky have put somthing in the software to stop you from sharing it via Apple TV etc. it also buffered terrible, and depends where you are the drop out is an issue also. What are you trying to watch? There are some cheap local alternatives.

it's usual because the VPN will not work on your chromecast caused by google using the google DNS.
Even on most android boxes it won't work. Because like amazon instant they check if your android TV box is jailbroken or contains modified firmware.
The description below will work 100% . because i do it this way.

With the apple tv it is much more easier.
1)On Apple TV, go the Settings > General > Network
2)Select Wi-Fi for wireless network or Ethernet if you have wired connection. For wireless network you’ll have to select Wi-Fi network and may need to enter Wi-Fi password (if you didn’t do it before)
3)Go to Configure DNS and switch it to Manual
4)Enter the smart DNS ( https://goo.gl/kq4nJ5 you can use the free trial)
5)Confirm on “Network” screen the DNS address is the numbers you entered (leading zeros will be omitted).
6)Go the Settings > General > iTunes Store > Location
7)Select United Kingdom - Return back to main screen - Put the Apple TV to sleep with the Sleep Now command in Settings - Unplug the Apple TV power cord - Wait ten seconds - Plug the Apple TV back in

Thats a lot of steps but it is very easy...! After this Netflix will work etc..

Sky Go is good if you use a VPN and your laptop with a HDMI lead, sky have not put anything into the IPAD software it is Apple that stops streaming to a large screen, your get the same problem with Filmon with an IPAD
