Thanks from me too. Hubbie is not sure he can afford it at the moment, but it does look to be something useful for 'home entertainment' (most of ours is playing scrabble or backgammon!)
I am sure many people will find your response helpful.
And I hope you might consider advertising on here, or consider what we call a 'sticky' as otherwise things are inclined to flal off the page and get lost. An ad or sticky keeps your name out front.
Thanks again.
And now, come on kibkomers, confess - how many of you use this system - him downstairs would like to know.

Re: Expat TV system
Straight question for ex pat system:
Have you seen NTV in operation? Your system is very similar obviously, you receive the data from Turkey like they do, does it buffer/freeze if so by how much. I am with MM for their internet which most of the time I am happy with. When I do have problems they are pretty prompt at fixing them, another bonus is that either Erol or Kemal will send something out with an explanation.

Mollie, Yes I have seen their system and it is different to ours. we have dedicated boxes so you get the Sky extreme package which is all sky channels plus all uk plus a selection of latest movies. Buffering does not happen on our system, and yes it can freeze but very rare and that depends on your internet. with our tv system you get a phone number which you can ring 24hours and I am on the other end. you can keep your internet with MM which is prob best as you are happy with them. If you want to see for yourself what our system is I can bring one to you and you can try it over night. please let me know and I can arrange a demo, today if you like.
thank you.

IPTV relies on the internet and even in the UK with a fast connection - at congested times- buffering can occur.

Re: Expat TV system
Joe will have to confirm this, but the Digital Supreme TV system may be running on their wireless network and therefore, it does not use the internet.
In other words, the broadcast servers are situated in their offices here and the TV Set Top Boxes in the 'customers' houses are accessing them across their own wireless internet - this may reduce buffering, but at busy times (when everyone wants to watch the same event, a popular football match for example), their network will still experience bottlenecks.
Plus, there are other factors involved such as where the source pictures are coming from - if they are being delivered from outside (the UK for example) by internet, there can also be problems with internet bandwidth.
Internet TV Systems are just not stable, the picture quality is no where near as good as satellite systems - quality and continuity is key. Our grand parents didn't accept a picture that continually stopped and started on their 'state of the art' Black and White TV's (at the time), without moaning. Have we really not progressed since those days ?
If you can afford it, get the best TV system for picture quality and continuity (from us) and you'll spend less time having to moan.
As for MMMMMM coming back. I doubt that it is him - why ?
Well, he spent a lot of time on other forums 3-4 years ago, convincing people to buy 4.2m dishes to watch Sky TV which can no longer be used. The people (lots of them) who spent £000,0's and followed his advice and purchased the expensive monstrosities in their gardens may (quite rightly) remonstrate with him about the advice that he gave (repeatedly). He has lost all/any credibility that he may have had.
Further he repeatedly (maliciously) speculated about our TV system which we supplied and still supply and which is 'still' working a number of years later.
At the time, I warned people to be cautious about spending lots of money on large dishes, expensive satellite receivers and £700+ per year on subscriptions to Sky. Some people spent £3,000+ on a large dish system (on his advice) which stopped working (fully) just two weeks after it was installed (because of changes with the satellites that Sky used)
I know this because once their systems stopped properly working, the customers purchased our satellite system to replace it.

Re: Expat TV system
Broadcast live TV systems (including satellite based systems) are more reliable than live internet based systems. However internet based live TV systems give greater flexibility and control in terms of what I can watch and when I can watch it. It is a compromise between reliability and flexibility. BBC internet based iPlayer service is less reliable that the BBC's broadcast systems, yet many people consume such content via the 'less reliable' system because it gives more choice and flexibility, even in the UK where the broadcast service is easily available. My 1970's land-line telephone was more reliable than my 2015 mobile phone.SatelliteCyprus wrote:Internet TV Systems are just not stable, the picture quality is no where near as good as satellite systems - quality and continuity is key. The above is true when you talk about 'live' TV. If however you compare broadcast systems with internet based TV systems that download content in its entirety before you watch it, then reliability is not an issue. Then the compromise is having to first download before watching. In systems such as these there is also potential for quality to be higher than can be delivered by broadcast systems. A blue ray version of an HD movie is higher quality that the HD broadcast equivalent. You can download content via the internet (both paid for content and 'stolen') that is higher quality than what can be delivered via a broadcast system.

Yes Paul just about right only thing is it doesn't reduce buffering, as we don't get buffering on the user end.

Re: Expat TV system
What do you mean by buffering and how is it different from freezing ? To me this is all just semantics. Either it plays without interruption or it does not, that is all that matters if you are viewing (and paying for) the content. The degree and frequency of interruption on your system DS Expat may be lower than other internet based systems and then again it may not. To me, in my personal view, the claim that it 'does not buffer' is disingenuous.DS Expat TV wrote:Yes Paul just about right only thing is it doesn't reduce buffering, as we don't get buffering on the user end.

No Erol, its a matter of reading a post correctly, before being described as disingenuous. I said at the user end. Therefore viewing is not interrupted.

Re: Expat TV system
I do not require your system nor am I spending time and effort posting here just to 'chat'. My interest here is that people are not misled. If I were personally interested in such a system then based purely on the subjective impression I have of your professional integrity based on your posts here to date I would not commit to paying a year up front for your service. I might risk it for a month and see how it goes but you do not offer such an option. When you say "Buffering does not happen on our system, and yes it can freeze but very rare and that depends on your internet." then I become wary and more so when you the refuse to explain what you consider the difference between 'buffering' and 'freezing' is. What is more when you make out the only possible cause of interruption (whether you call it buffering or freezing) a user may experience with your system can only be down to the customers 'internet connection' and never an issue from the DS serving end, I only become more wary for I know that companies and organisations like the BBC, Netflix, YouTube and any other you can think off have never themselves managed to provide a 100% service from their sending end, yet this appears to be what you are claiming your service does achieve. To me it just is not credible. NTV for all it's faults does allow customer to try a month at a time and does have a 'status' page on it's website where they post updates when they are aware that they have issues at their (serving) end. Having said that I do hope some of the posters here who are interested in such systems both try out your system and report back here their experiences. It is possible that your system is materially more reliable than the likes of NTV (or Filmon or BBC or Netflix or Amazon Prime etc etc) and I would welcome some genuine independent third party views, from people with experience of having used it. However to date for me personally nothing in the way your have chosen to promote your service here gives me confidence that this is the case.DS Expat TV wrote:If you do not require our system and just require some chat, then also let me know but Please give me notice as I am currently coding in python, and need a my brain in one direction. Re: Expat TV system
There can be no greater flexibility than having the ability to record programmes in High Definition (to watch later) and to watch one channel whilst recording another (in High Definition) - along with a host of other features that the Showbox Satellite Receiver offers to its users.
The key thing to note is that this is High Definition and as TV is a visual medium, surely the quality of the picture must rate as 'most' important.
Further, with 'Live' channels such as the multi-award winning Sky News in High Definition and UK TV Programmes (Emmerdale, Eastenders, Coronation Street etc.) PLUS the majority of the most popular American TV Series aired at the same time as they air in America.
Not to forget, the 10 HD Movie channels showing all the most populare Movies and the facility to watch Movies and TV shows on Demand (all included in the cost of Subscription) AND Sports, Discovery and Science, National Geographic Channels, Crime and Investigation, History Channels, Food Channels, Fashion and Music Channels and so much more in HD!
Plus add to this, one of our zero monthly cost Internet TV Systems which gives the majority of free to air TV channels - Live ! and you really do have the 'complete' TV solution
Quality and Continuity with no Buffering ! - Guaranteed on any of our Satellite TV Systems

Re: Expat TV system
I have read through this thread and found it rather interesting on what is being offered by each company,. I for one am contemplating on getting UK TV out in TRNC as I will be spending more time there in the future. What this thread has prompted me to do is invest in both Satellite and Internet TV, as I know that even in UK we get buffering problems and freezing - so would be good to have an option to switch when problems occur.
This thread had been closed as I believe there were several unsavoury postings which had been edited and deleted by moderators. Keep to the rules of the forum and moderators will not intervene.
