Looking at buying a new TV and most have built-in satellite

I think one of the systems is Hotbird. Can anyone tell me what channels are in English and whether I would need a new dish or could my 4.2 dish be adapted for this? Thanks

Rather than Hotbird, you might find that there are more 'Free to Air' English Language programmes broadcast from the Nilesat satellite.
Note that these are not exclusively UK English programmes, or material from the current UK broadcast schedule - they're quite a mixture, and usually have Arabic subtitles superimposed (because they are transmitted for the benefit of an Arab audience!).
The 4.2 M dish is rather 'overkill', but it will certainly do the job!

Thank you for your reply Keithcaley. The TV I am leaning towards is a Samsung and it that apparently comes with Hotbird. Do you know where I can find out which channels are broadcast in English? With regards the 4.2 dish I agree it is overkill but it is out of sight and as it cost me more than £2000 I will at least get some use out of it! I presume I will need someone to set it up for me though? Judy

One of the main (but certainly not the only) reference websites for satellite reception is
KingofSat - it does take a bit of trawling through, but all the information is in there somewhere! Don't be put off by the 'Homepage' - that's just updates.
