From Digiturk to....?

After reading many posts here on Kibkom I see that nobody knows who is the best to go with. For someone like me it is interesting watching the battle between the company's, as I wait and gain what information I can to make that right choice. The previous topics I have been ready to talk in reached over 2,000 views and then closed. Anyway I enjoyed reading them and at many times felt like I could not wait for the next reply almost like a soap. I myself have Digiturk but I don't think I will be renewing as it is very boring and many times I just use it for the music channels which are very good. So can anyone tell me which television system they are using and is it really worth the move from Digiturk or should I just buy a New Radio and be done with it.

Kevyk,

You have already stated in your posting that it seems no one knows the best tv system to move to.....therefore as you will probably appreciate you will get a very wide variety of suggestions.

Rather than go over old ground with the possibility of starting yet another acrimonious argument can I suggest you search the forum for a few suggestions. This topic has come up many times and I am sure you will find many suggestions but maybe not answers to your question.

I use BBC iPlayer, All4 (was 4oD), ITV player and Netflix (with a subscription) on a wire connected Samsung smart TV. I use a paid for third party VPN service to get these to work on my smart TV. I also download content on my wire connected PC that can then be played on the TV. For BBC content that we know we will want to watch I download it first using a non BBC third party open source system called Get_Iplayer, which means having downloaded it it does not have any time limit and can be displayed on more that just the device I download it on, like the TV. I also download movies and other content. We are not big sports fans and about the only thing that I like to watch live is F1, which I do via BBC when they have live coverage or using NTV / Sky sports F1 when they do not.

This works for us but it is not a solution that would suit everyone. We did when we first arrived here over 11 years ago have digiturk but ultimately there just was not enough content on it that we wanted to watch for us so we abandoned it after about 2 years.

I know its not too easy being a mod. but if everyone adopted your suggestion then there would be not much point in posting. And not too sure what exactly you were moderating..

Thank you Erol, It's a thought and useful information. It is about time I let go or Digiturk, I saw Ntv in a bar here and it looked good, will pop down and ask them more.

Couldn't agree more, I started the original thread about the TV systems available and have gleaned some useful information. Unfortunately yet another thread was locked because the moderator thought it was an argument of a technical issue? It must be great to have that power/ego to close/lock a thread at a whim.

I agree too if people want it dont close it.

We are all adult enough and dont need to be treated like kids at school.

At least give people warning, so they can have their final words and defend themselves.

As I have already said there are plenty of threads on this very subject and a simple forum search will bring up the relevant information you require. It was a suggestion to prevent repetition.

The thread recently closed on a similar subject was done for good reasons as explained.

This thread has only a few postings so far but it is mainly by the same people who posted on the previous thread about TV systems and as you would expect is being closely monitored.

There is no reason to give warnings about closing threads so posters can "defend" themselves. It is a moderators decision and we try to strike the right balance. We have received complaints recently of a thread being kept open for too long, which does show that it is difficult to satisfy everyone all of the time.

The forum rules clearly exlain what is and is not acceptable on the forum and also explains the role of the moderators whose decision is final and they do not have to explain every action taken. Please respect the decisions made.

We have never had Digiturk, had a 4.2m dish and Sky from day 1.

However, the UK tv on the dish has all but gone, and we actually moth balled ours some time ago as we only ever had the FTA channels.

We went for the Nilesat option, and have to say that as we are not big tv watchers, it serves us very well. Enough news from BBC and AJE (albeit more global than UK), a cookery channel that the wife and kids like very much, MBC 2,3,4, Max, Dubai 1, Fox and Fox movies (quite weather dependent), DMTV, and a few others.

I do have a look through every so often to see if any new ones appear, There s currently testing for 4 Qatar channels, I would expect most of those to be in English when they launch proper too.

For the very low cost to install (can't actually remember how much, might have been around 400tl) and all FTA on a 1m dish, it was worth the money, and is not reliant on internet.

I upgraded ours to a dual LNB available form the UK for about £18, no reason it couldn't have been a quad if you need one.
The wife keeps complaining I never listen to a word she says ............. or something like that.

Just did a simple search and received over 1800 articles.. so that's why I started a thread. sorry if I'm being picky but you can see it would take too long to get through them all.
