Android box options
I want to stop using the laptop to stream tv and films, It has been suggested I get an Android box but don't know enough about them so any help gratefully received.
1. Can you get them here, if so where and how much
2. Is it only UK TV you can access as my partner accesses via Internet tv with turkish subtitles
3. Is there an alternative at a reasonable cost as money an issue.
Any advice gratefully received.

Re: Android box options
Not seen them in the North at all (so far!)
Available in a shop called 'Public' in 'Mall of Cyprus' in the South, but a bit pricey & probably stocked by other places as well.
If money is an issue, then the very cheapest option is this which is so cheap that it doesn't even have a remote control! - I think that you have to operate it from your 'phone via Bluetooth! The price does include free shipping to either Turkey ('TRNC') or Cyprus (the South).
There are many dozens of different android 'boxes' or 'sticks' at different prices, up into the hundreds of pounds range, so you can spend as much as you want
This one is one of the most expensive!
With the appropriate free software installed, you can watch virtually any TV programme 'live' (in almost any language) or just about any TV programme that has ever been transmitted, or any movie - including ones that are not even out yet... & If the device that you choose has sufficient Memory installed, then you can also download programmes 'off-peak' to watch later.
There was a bit of a discussion here on this forum.
As with most things 'technical' there is a 'learning curve' if you want to get the most out of it; even if you get someone else to install the software for you, you still need to learn how to operate it...

Re: Android box options
Had a android box 9 months now nothing hard about xbmc on the box I have only a matter of pressing the xbmc icon then selecting the channel I want to watch for free. Only ever had one problem with it and a quick email to the company I bought it from and they gave me a time next day to contact them they then took control of my box from London and 20 minutes later it was up and working.DS Expat TV wrote:Don't throw your money away on xbmc unless you know how to operate it !!!

So as long as I get a service like that I don't see why I should buy a box from some one who charges you to watch sport and films where I can get it for nothing and the android box is cheaper than the box you sell.

Shell
dont listen to them.
For what you are asking for you just need to get chrome cast about £20 or so and cast xbmc from your laptop to tv no cables.

Re: Android box options
Shell232 - there are a number of options available to you.
Of course, you can buy from wherever you like and take a chance, but we have been installing our Internet TV System in Cyprus for 3 years. It is tried and tested with more than a thousand customers locally. It is not the same as the other off the shelf boxes that are available that are not necessarily designed/built to operate in very hot conditions during the summer months. We still have boxes operating three years after they were installed and we are still here supporting our customers.
We see increasing numbers of customers contacting us every week who have purchased inferior products from various sources. Products that have failed and are from people/companies that are no longer available (closed, gone bust or are now selling something else to make a few bob and changed their phone number)
We are not the cheapest because we are a properly registered business and all the products that we sell are properly imported (Taxes, Duty and KDV paid) 11 years supporting our customers means that the majority of our business comes through recommendation, but posting the odd bit of information on Kibkom doesn't do any harm.
Have a look at the Android Page http://www.satellitecyprus.net/android_cyprus/ on our web site, but also look at the other TV systems that we do http://www.satellitecyprus.net/osn_cyprus/ and http://www.satellitecyprus.net/bein_sports/ before you make a decision.
I hope that this information is useful to you.

Not a very good option, considering that the OP spcifically mentioned that they "want to stop using the laptop to stream tv and films"DS Expat TV wrote:Shell

As for the other suggestions from people who jumped in trying to flog their own goods / services, please note that the OP asked for information on Android boxes...
I am sure that your products are just fine, and work well, but that was not what the thread was about, and you don't have to hijack every single thread that concerns TV viewing, it doesn't cost anything to start your own thread...

Re: Android box options
Keithcaley...The first link in my post takes anyone who is interested to a page on our web site that includes information on 3 different types/models of box running Android that can be bought locally. I suspect that you didn't read my post properly. Hijacked the thread ???

Plus...
I must revise my comment about Android boxes not being offered for sale in the North.
I can see from Paul's link - that I am quite wrong!
