Buying a TV – UK or NC?

I have read the threads re poor TV reception via internet. When I come to NC, I would ideally want the UK terrestrial channels and BBC4, but understand that BBC iplayer is blocked abroad. Too bad, as I would be happy to pay for this, even with patchy internet service.
Despite all the problems, having no TV at all during winter evenings in NC may not be a good idea. The different services on offer (via internet and satellite) are confusing so I will probably have to wait till I get there to decide.
So my question now is: Should I bring a UK-purchased TV (over 6 months old) to NC, or should I buy a TV there? I will be shipping other goods as well, so there would be no additional transport cost. I understand the license fee is £10 on imported TVs.
If I bought in UK: Would a normal flat screen TV with HDMI sockets be sufficient to take either internet+tvbox or satellite service? I would also buy a TV that is ‘iplayer enabled’ just in case the BBC changes their policy.
Is there any reason it would better to wait and buy a TV in NC instead?
A confused blueparrot thanks you all for your advice.
