Stonecastle Restaurant/Bar

Living in walking distance of this establishment my partner and I with our neighbours decided tp pop out for a couple of drinks and sat at the outside bar area.
To say we were disappointed would be putting it mildly, Poorly served drinks but the kick in the teeth were the prices!
10tl for a local vodka
5tl for diet 7 Up
7tl for draught Beer.
We can now see why it was empty, we complained bitterly about the rip-off prices only to be met with a shrug of the shoulders.
Needless to say we will not be going back! Not never!!!

It would appear they never learn here. There are at least 3 other eateries/bars within walking distance of said establishment, yet the prices and service are poor. Bad attendance of patrons, good competition locally - oh, lets put the prices up and give indifferent service to local living expats. We too will never use this establishment again for exactly the reasons given in post 1, plus there are many other local establishments giving a better deal.

Its such a shame that they appear not to have learnt anything in the year plus they have been open, like you we have eaten there twice, (last year) first time was nice, second time was poor and we have not been back, the setting for this place is lovely and it could be a enjoyable dining experience if they got their act together.
As Tomsteel says there are better places to eat.

It doesn't surprise me. The owner was abusive, quite unnecessarily.
Have no intention of eating there and would recommend others to give him a miss.

Here is a review from September 2014.
"We have been coming to Northern Cyprus for the last 13 years and this is the very best.four of us eat there last night .and all said the same two of our party live in Northern Cyprus and eat there for the first time and said they would be going back again next week ,the price is just right 202 ltr for four about £63 where could four people eat in England for that .i think some people need to get a life .the service was first class and the meal was great take it from someone that has been coming to Cyprus for thirteen years and staying for 6 weeks at a time sometimes twice a year you must try the stone castle .
Visited September 2014".
Odd how different people can view a place so differently. Wonder if it is because they were visitors?

Agree with the above comments, we've been twice and the food has been ok but nothing to shout about, certainly nothing to make us want to go back.
Clearly they've invested a lot of money in building this place from scratch so you would think they would do all they could to give people a good experience to encourage repeat custom. Surely a lesser profit margin and top notch food and service would see the place full to the rafters most evenings and they would soon get their investment back, but no, lets get our money back quicker by putting up the prices and skimping on the service to an ever decreasing patronage!!
Personally we find Genghis's hard to beat, good consistent quality, competitive prices and good atmosphere, just a shame most of the competitors can't step up to the mark for a bit of variety.

We are not visitors but live here all year and have done on a permanant basis for 4 years. We live close
to this restaurant but will not go again. The food and service were a disaster, the waitors and waitress were dressed
in grunge and we couldn't wait to leave. There are plenty more eating establishments in this area all competing for
business, where the food is good and service is much better and the waitors are smartly dressed.
It is a great shame because the setting of the Stone Castle is fantastic and a lot of money has been spent
there.

Try Bar B in Kucuk Erenkoy - not the cheapest, but fantastic food, service and hospitality. We take all our visitors/swallow mates there and have never been disappointed in 6+ years.

Tomsteel,
I did not want recommendations as to where one can eat as living here for 10 years I am fully aware of all the various establishments, the point I am making is I feel most of the restaurants here now are very ordinary but charge extortionate prices!, We eat out very rarely now for that reason, As for drinks prices I think most places pluck numbers out of the air!.
I'm afraid it's not the Kibris of old unfortunately.

Oh dear. An absolutely lovely couple have now booked this for their wedding next year. It is such a magical setting that they felt it had to be for them. Can anyone say they think that the restaurant will pull out all the stops. I would just HATE for a special day like that to be spoilt. Comment.s Any encouragement for the young couple???????????????

Tried this Restaurant only last week-end for the first time, have to agree it was at best average and overpriced. I have never had a Steak with no potatoes in my life only rice and carrots and the steak was tasteless and tough. No good complaining as the staff came nowhere near us, mind there were only two staff and it was very busy. Back to The Gorgeous Restaurant for us, different class and the staff are pleased to see you.

That was a bit harsh SkyBlueSam............it was an honest post with an honest suggestion. Could you not have taken it in the spirit it was meant? Wrong side of the bed springs to mind.

Stonecastle had problems early last year but now they seem to have got it right. We have had several meals there in the last year and they have all been very good. I know others who go there frequently because of the food and setting.
In reply to Marion. We recently chose Stonecastle for a special wedding anniversary. We took friends and everyone commented on the excellent food and presentation. We sat inside and they prepared a table looking out to the sunset. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were dressed appropriately. They finished the meal with a decorative dessert which was on the house. The bill was reasonable, not expensive.
All restaurants have bad days. I have yet to have one here. The prices are no dearer than most other places. If you want cheap then use a cafe or one of the bar/restaurants. This is a restaurant not a bar.

To begin with I always say "don't be mean, keep it clean"
Its healthy to evaluate and publish ones experience for the benefit of all, and one should not be offended by healthy criticism and responses.
SKYBLUESAM; Your dining experience at Stone Castle was disappointing and shame you made a decision not to return on principle.
Although I never had a meal at this restaurant, yet, I heard "first hand experience" from people dined there, most unfortunately were not encouraging for the same reasons mentioned by you and others. Therefore I opted in favour of other restaurants that have better reputation for good food, value for money and service.
Jim, its good to defend this restaurant, but I believe you are exaggerating "a bit". yes the restaurant has a lovely setting, but......
I visited the building when it was under construction. Inside, you can not see the sunset as claimed because the window-cills are set at high level, make it difficult to see the sunset as you described. Also the style of the windows not suitable.
As for the food and the service this restaurant gave you, well,,,,,, I leave it you reconsider....
Don't be offended, as I said in the beginning "Healthy and constructive criticism" is for the benefit of the all.
We hope the restaurant proprietor take on board the feedback and does something about the food, service, etc., etc.
all the best
