Went to Villaggio Zeytinlik last night which is old Ottoman House restaurant. The most amazing meal. There were 4 of us. On arriving we sat in the new outside bar area which has outstanding views looking down to the sea. Little bread canapes and nuts are served with your drinks. We decided to have one of the set meals. Wow what a meal. A fantastic selection of cold and hot meze followed by a whole leg of lamb served with potatoes. Our eyes nearly popped out of our heads when we saw the lamb. They literally bring the whole leg and leave you to carve it yourself. An abundance of meat falling off the bone. This is followed by dessert, that is if you can eat anymore!!!!!!! The staff are so attentive and friendly. The table settings are so clean. The bill - unbelievable value. For 4 of us it was 220 tl, all this food for 55tl each!!!!!! Plus drinks of course. Thoroughly recommend it. Our friends have the rest of the leg for their lunch today.

I went along to Eminem Reataurant in Catalkoy on the recommendation of colleagues within the Forum as I was looking for a restaurant which specialises in kebab's and meze and I was not disappointed so a big thank you to everyone. There was 5 of us and we all had mixed kebab with drinks and the bill was 216TL

Yes Groucho. But no carving necessary as it falls off bone. Also they do whole fish cooked in a salt crust and they will take it off bone for you.

Directions:
From Girne you take the left turn at Lemar Supermarket just after the HSBC island, follow that road to Zeytinlik, you will go past a brightly painted nursery school on the left, shortly after this as you go around a left hand bend, the restaurant is on the left, large carpark opposite
From Lapta take the bypass at the first traffic lights turn left, down hill turn left, Archway sign, go into the village take a right just before the roundabout in the village (about 20 mtrs before), restaurant will be on your left. For those coming from Girne on the bypass, it will be the 2nd set of traffic lights after the Kings Bowls, turn right then follow directions above into the village.

I think someone was having a pop Heaven about the spelling of carving.

I was told that the restaurant was run by the same family that had Cafe Dukkan and that was always very good.

Yes it is, but now added full al acarte plus lots of other options. Give it a try you will not be disappointed.

Did you have to order the lamb the day before?

We have been to the restaurant in Zeitinlik twice and enjoyed the food.

No we did not have to order the day before and apparently there is now rack of lamb on menu. Will definately try that

I Will visit this restaurant, despite the pm sent to me by surfmeetseast, if the person concerned chooses to be vegetarian then I respect their choice, I choose to eat meat, and that is my choice. I do not appreciate insults just because I choose a different way of life from theirs.

Soner, Posh and Marions are aware that my husband posts innappropriately sometimes, as he is suffering from alzheimers.
Although we ARE both indeed vegetarian, I do respect other people's aversion to it
Ironically my husband's condition has been put down, by his specialist, to maybe having consumed rotten antibiotic filled meat whilst living here some years ago

A post mortem to my last post, I am now ending my account on this forum, due to the posts my hubbie has put without my knowledge, that are hurting me and other people
Our family have lived on this island since 1973, and we try to integrate into our village and do what we can for animals.
I suppose I am trying to say, or to ask people not to judge because my husband is ill. But there is some truth in some of what he says.
We avoid expat bars and restaurants and company because we did not come here to have a sanitised villa or a chemical filled pool or any kind of Little Britain at all, and we belive that all of you that do, are playing a large part in the ruination of this country

I too have been to the restaurant Villaggio, and would highly recommend it good food brill service and friendly staff.
surfmeetseast, so sorry to read your posting, bless you, you must have a great deal to cope with, i am sure Elizabeth will understand, the difficulties you are dealing with.

A friend of ours went, they really enjoyed the food. The owner did say if you want the leg of lamb for 4/5 people or the shoulder of lamb for 2/3 people you should pre order.

Couldn't believe how cheap it was, large cold and hot mezze to start, then large leg of lamb which you carve yourselves, just fell off the bone and sweet to follow, all for 55tl per person. In fact two of our party took home the remaining lamb which the restaurant took off the bone and had enough for Sunday lunch. We are all going back going to try the rack of lamb of the salt crusted baked fish, can't wait. Our turn for the doggie back next time.

Went to this restaurant last night, and have to say it is SUPERB!!!!! Had the leg of lamb between 4, brought the 'leftovers' away with us. Just fed 2 of us again...and another meal for two waiting for tomorrow. It is exceptional. The mezes were fab, with some different ones to the norm, which is a refreshing change. Can't wait to go again. We ordered the lamb beforehand. Service was excellent, the staff excellent, could not find one thing to criticise....oh, apart from the weather.......had to sit inside, but it did get a little warm in there, so once the rain had gone, we asked if we could move outside for the lamb course.......no problem, they set us another table outside where we dined on the fabulous lamb.......this restaurant certainly deserves to do well.

Going back again this weekend, uhm leg of lamb, shoulder of lamb, rack of lamb or one of the other fantastic options, totally spoilt for choice. Might even try fish in a baked salt crust if I order the day before!

Went again last night fabulous food and service. Asked about pre ordering and yes if you want lamb leg, shoulder or rack of lamb please phone restaurant and pre order. Well worth it, came home with tonights dinner!

Did anybody who went to this restaurant happen to notice whether or not they had wheelchair access?

If you are not in a hurry,going to check it out probably Thursday(tried to find it once but for some reason couldn't)will let you know then if no one else has come up with the answer by then

We are booked in on Sunday I must admit it is the best food I have tasted in a long time.

You are absolutely right Happyfeet. I am booking for my husbands 70th birthday 11 October. There is wheel chair access, the ramp a bit steep from the bar area but plenty of willing staff to help. If you telephone and ask to speak to jj and ask him for any special needs thenhe will sort it. Enjoy

We have family out with a 2 year old, went to Zeytinlik Olive festival, arrived at Villagio just before our prebooked table time, what a welcome what a superb meal as always attentive staff excellent food and surroundings one for you to try, we have been going since it opened the consistency is amazing..<<<<<Well done Villagio>>>

I've been twice now first time had leg of lamb second time fillet stake for four people fab. Returning again with friends tonight for leg of lamb. Don't forget to order 24 hours before.

Now to tell you about the fish cooked in a salt crust which we tried last night! We started with the most amazing fish meze, normal meze but with fantastic calamari, king prawns on a paella, small hot prawns in a delicious sauce and kofte with a filling tasting like wonderful fish cake. Then came a huge oval plate with a massive salt crust encasing delicious fish. When they bring the fish they pour brandy over the salt crust and set it alight. The fish then is taken back to the kitchen to have the crust removed. This was then very expertly filleted for us at the table and served with large fried chips etc. It was simply amazing. We met all the family and we were told that a Master Chef was brought in from Istanbul to train their chef which shows how much care and attention goes into their food and menu. Thank you to the family and staff for a truly wonderful evening

If you want fish in a salt crust east of Girne go to Ani restaurant in Catalkoy you have to pre order it but it is wonderful.

Look on facebook now doing lamb shanks. Probably best to pre order. Cant wait to try.

Four of us tried this restaurant last night. What an amazing place, friendly staff, fantastic food, great atmosphere, we cannot praise this restaurant enough, we had a really nice evening, would certainly go back, well done to all, thank you for a lovely evening.

Now going to try their tapas evening on Tuesday night. Going by past food it should be amazing. Will let you all know
