Can anyone tell me what has happened to The Kyrenia Tavern? The last time I went it was closed.Someone told me there had been an illness or infirmity causing the wonderful couple who ran it to retire. I sincerely hope not but can find no reference on this forum to what has happened.

They were a lovely old couple and such a homey atmosphere and she was a wonderful cook and everything home made. They were however of an age where perhaps they deserved retirement and while I suppose it is natural the younger generation want to move on, it is very sad that such places are disappearing from the Island, and indeed I suspect everywhere.

If you want a similar place try Ikimiz in the turkish quarter its run in their old home. Mum does cooking and daughter serves. Its a lovely place, not a huge menu but well worth a visit.

There are many good restaurant's here in North Cyprus all with differences to make eating out a great experience.
None better than the Kyrenia Tavern.
I was so pleased that we could take our visiting friends there for the unique dining experience that it is.
firstly the family run business. They are so welcoming and attentive through the whole evening always on hand
between serving the wonderful home cooked and prepared food for refills or should you choose conversation.
The gardens are of such maturity and decorated throughout in a quirky style. I cant think off any other restaurant
where i stroll around the gardens and go looking at all the well placed pieces of interest.
This is a dining experience not to be missed and we look foreword to the next time

Thanks everyone for the responses. Special thanks to sonofodin for the TripAdvisor review. As your review was about a meal taken in September,after my last visit,it seems they are up and running again.Your review exactly reflects the experiences I have had there over a number of years. I hope they are still in business when I next visit.
