Crispy squid Catalkoy. Chips have gone up 100 percent in one go. 2fish and chips 70ytl (£15) typical London cyps can't do a price rise of 2or3ytl. 15 ytl on two items.we will not use them again.

Is that eat in or takeaway? 35tl a portion
I was paying £10 for a portion in the uk from darts farm in 2004! Hence they are still a treat not part of my basic diet

Hi Lulu,
Not too sure where you get the 100% rise from.
I was in the Crispy Squid on 30th Jan, even commented on FB,
as I enjoyed my Fish & Chips so much...
Also picked up a price list...
Hardly a 100% rise, 25% yes
Humble Pie appears to be on the menu for you
At today's exchange rate, I was paying 33Tl/£7.20 in London for similar quality,
in 2004! (Inc coffee)

Nothing like posting on a public forum without speaking with the owner of the business first is there? Let's give them a bad name without a second thought.

In you second posing you use YTL. This currency has not been in use for 8 years. TRNC uses the currency of Turkey which is either TL or TRY.

Lulu, I don't understand why you convert to sterling, it has no bearing on the issue.....

I'm not defending anything here, but as I read it, she said "chips have gone up 100%"

Actually ate there last night, both of us had haddock, chips & curry sauce with a slice of bread and butter. Washed it down we had a bottle of Tuborg malt beer. The bill was 104TL total, I think that's pretty good for eat in and to be honest it was delicious and plentiful, we said we would share a portion of chips next time.

Does anybody know where the fish and chip shops buy the cod . I live in iskele and once a week we get two fish and chips from the lical chicken shop it really big and excellent . It coems as a meal deal and is cod chips and can of whatever . It was 50 tl but a couple of months ago has gone up to 60 tl . The guy who runs it is pretty reasonable and im sure the cod is expensive . We dont really want the chips or the drink but thats the option . Also my wife shares her cod with the baby and only eats the cod ie removes the batter . When it was 50 tl ia sked how much for just two fisn anh he said 45 tl ,! Clearly most of the price is in the cod .
Im just wandering if anyone knows whre to buy good sized cod pieces . Ive bought cod from the greek side but you get three or four little pieces . If we couo dfind the big cod pieces we would buy them as its healthier option to microwave them . Would probaly still keep ordering from the local though !

Here in the UK I run a fish & chip business. I can confirm that in the last 4 years a 45lb box of Cod has risen from £61 to £112 per box and quality frying spuds have also had a similar increase. I charge £6.30 for 6-8oz Cod & chips. If f&c shops had passed on the true cost increase customers would be paying £7-8 a portion easily, instead our margins have taken the hit which we can control to an extent by looking at every aspect of our business and ensuring we practice best value on everything we buy. As an example fuel prices dropped considerably over the last few years and we took things like this in to account when pricing our menu. Fish & chips is still a very competitively priced meal here in the UK.

At Lambros on the British base it is 8.9 euros (I think) with mezes for cod and chips but only 5.6 euros if you take it away, I believe. So par for the course I expect.

re Lokmans, Alsancak
Yes, they are 28TL but worth every TL of it! I normally have normal size fish with half portion chips and half portion salad. They will also serve smaller portions at a lower price. Always 'service with a smile' !
