Like some of the readers I couldn't wait for Salty's Fish & Chip Shop to open. Well we've now tried it, and I can honestly say I won't be going there again!!! severely disappointed. the batter on the fish was like rock, it was a small piece of fish, and sorry just didn't enjoy it. However, HurDeniz had been recommended to us so yesterday we tried that - absolutely excellent - before we got our meal they brought out salad, toasted bread, olives, and then the fish and chips arrived. Absolutely gorgeous - the batter on the fish was excellent, (and I couldn't even finish it all) and the chips were the best I've tasted anywhere, well worth a visit. Another good place is towards Alsancak, Ravines - their fish and chips are also excellent, would happily eat at both restaurants again and again.

We went to HurDeniz when we were over in January and it was packed with locals(always a good sign)on a Saturday night.I had the fish & chips and my wife had the salmon.Huge piece of salmon and home made chips,nice atmosphere,very friendly staff and good food/prices.would certainly recommend and will try something different when we return in April,maybe the fish meze.

As we stay in Karmi we usually use Cod Baba...never been disappointed.

Hillside at Alsancak - ambience a little lacking but the fish and chips are excellent!!

I will say again, commenting on food is so subjective however, we did try Salty's the other night, we thought it was a great meal. Sat inside, only waited 7/8 minutes while we had a beer. The fish and chips were perfect, as good as you get in the UK. My only comment to the owner was the small portion of mushy peas, she said ask Yousef for a bigger portion next time no problem.

Will certainly go again.

Considerin the usual after effects of mushy peas, I find tis probably better to have a small portion!

Went to Stroll Inn Karakum on Friday evening,their fish and chips were excellent,also served mushy peas separately in a large bowl for those who liked them..

To all those who have responded to my post, thank you so much for taking the time - I've got a wealth of restaurants to try now - I'm happy to say that I definitely won't be missing fish and chips in north Cyprus! lol

Would just like to add to the list.......Pine Bay in Alsancak also do great fish n'chips !!! My piece of fish was so big, I couldn't finish it, and took it home for my cats !!!

Hi Graeme when r u back here buddy.

I would recommend Stroll Inn everytime, I have never had a bad meal in there in all the years I have been in TRNC.

Agree Stroll Inn never let us down either, nice & quiet with good service, my Hubby is a fussy eater but the chef came out to ask him how he wanted his food cooked, excellent.

The best fish and chips has to be Lochmans in Alsancak, they do a lovely three course sunday roast with a glass of wine only 23TL!!
a friendly atmosphere with lovely helpful staff. definately worth a visit.

Tumba's in Esentepe, do good fish & chips.

If you find yourselves in the Karpaz on a Friday evening, then 'DECK'S' is the place for excellent fish and chips. Went there Friday, huge piece of cod, excellent chips, mushy peas, aaaahhhhhh..................
and a fabulous sunset!!
