Getting Pets into TRNC
Has anyone had experience of getting pets into TRNC using Turkish Airlines? I hope to be coming to live in Kyrenia in the summer and it seems I will have to uses Turkish Airlines transiting through Istanbul in July. I am concerned about my 2 dogs in case they are left out in the heat. Is there anyway they could fly to Larnaca, a straight through flight, and be driven up north? I understand that getting them across the border can be tricky. Does anyone have recent experiences of animals flying with Turkish Airlines?

Yes you can go to larnaca and K.A.R will pick them up for you at a cost but go and speak to them and they will point you in the right direction.

No it is fine but you need the vet to be there and check all the relevant papers which is another cost.

Re: Getting Pets into TRNC
We brought our third child ( Jasper: Dog!!) here with us in September.
Turkish Airlines were great. We asked for proof our dog had got onto the adjoining flight. My husband asked and so gave him water at Istanbul. They helped my husband and in no way hindered him.
Jasper was fine at the end of the flight.
KAR were fantastic this end and no sooner than the plane touched down, Jasper had been reunited with my husband and was free to go after being escorted by KAR official.
The problems were actually in the UK. Vets, various government departments etc. but we got there in the end.
Moral of the story: visit or contact KAR, organise paperwork WAY in advance, and insist on seeing your dog in Istanbul.
I would always favour flying to the side of the Island you live on. Why not? But then I am lazy and don't want to face any further box ticking at this end.
Jasper now leads an idyllic life, playing with his friends, sleeping in the sun and enjoying the countryside!! Best of Luck!!

Re: Getting Pets into TRNC
Thank you for your replies. I am visiting Kyrenia again in April and have an appointment already to meet up with a lady from KAR as I hope they will be my agents to bring the dogs in. I am coming from Kuwait so at least haven't got the UK paperwork to deal with, but I suspect coming from the middle east will set up its own challenges!
Another couple of questions to dog/animal lovers. I will be renting a villa, not yet, need to finish work first, but I hope the dogs can do 1 month in house quarantine. Does anyone know a good, reliable company who can put in fencing of some sort to stop the dogs going walkabout on their own? They have lived all their lives in a flat and been used to being walked 4 times a day, having the relative freedom of a garden will be very different for them for a while. Won't know what sort of fencing I will need until I rent the property.
Who is a good English speaking vet? Are the costs of veterinary treatment comparable to or cheaper than the UK? Do I need to take out dog insurance?
Does TRNC have Leishmaniosis? In Kuwait we don't as it gets too hot, but I have a friend in Spain and it is a real issue there. My dogs will have no immunity for it, are there any meds I can bring with me?
I know this is a ridiculously broad question, but as animal lovers, are there any questions I need to ask before I get to Kyrenia or anything you wished you had known ahead of time?
Thank you, Jane

HI
My partner builds all types of fencing, etc. if you are in TRNC at the moment and would like a free quote, please call him on 05338221679 his name is Pete. He is English and very reliable. Alternatively email him on college475@btinternet.com and he can send you pics of work he has done so you can see his workmanship if you are not over here yet and can arrange at a later date for a free estimate
Also to answer one of your questions above regarding leishmaniasis, unfortunately TRNC does have leish don't let it put you off though, there are fantastic vets here and organisations for advice and prevention etc
regards, Emma

Turkish airlines are great. Yes there is Leish but the para and collars are available in any vets or pharmacy. No quarantine seems to be enforced. I imported my dog from UK, he arrived on the baggage carousel with the other luggage.Vet just wanted his 90 lira, did not even want to see my dog. There is also a vaccine now for Leish good luck

I am informed by Garfield vets that this is now available. Perhaps ask your own vet?
