my dog coming over from the UK
Hi!
WE are going to be bringing our dog over at the end of August.
We have been to KAR and they were extremely helpful!...The problem is we are travelling back tomorrow and don't have the time to pop in KAR again.
Question:
We will have the rabies jab done as soon as we get back and then a seurology test a couple of weeks later . Will that be okay to get the passport and then take our dog here?
We will be here for the majority of the children's schooling ( at least 6 years ) so we would have a long time before we would need to consider taking him anywhere else...
Any advice would really be welcome! Thanks!

Hope the dog import goes well for you.
We are desperately short of dogs here so any more you can bring in will be a huge bonus.

Now,now Philoz! If your animals are part of your family, you don't just up and leave them. Yes, I know some do when leaving here. Would you leave a child behind, personally I would!!(only joking)

While I'm sure you want to get your dog here as soon as possible, would it not be better to wait until the end of September or even October, as it is very, very hot in August and through to mid September, and will give your dog no time to adjust to the heat.

Hi Stellasstar, long time no hear!. May be Jazzdolly's circumstances prevent this, although I agree it would be better for the dog to come a bit later.

Re: my dog coming over from the UK
Hi we imported our dog at the beginning of April after planning for many months!
Yes have the rabies jab done ASAP, but I am sure you can only have the serology test 30 days after the actual jab has been given, as they have to ensure that there is a certain amount of the antivirus in their system.
Is your dog chipped? If not you will also need this doing.
Ensure that all vaccinations are up to date and logged in your dogs 'health check' booklet.
There are lots of different forms that you will need to fill in, including export forms from DEFRA. All forms must be completed IN FULL and sent on to the relevant parties. DEFRA will issue you with the correct export forms within 14 days of export, this will be sent on to your vets before your leaving date and they will then issue you with a pet passport and fill in all of the relevant sections. You will also need to apply to the vets here for an import licence.
Contact DEFRA once you are back in the UK and they should be able to email you the forms that you require. Also, inform them of which countries your dog will be travelling through (if driving) they can then tell you if you require anything else for certain countries (for Turkey we needed to have a transport certificate).
You will also need to organise a final health check at your vets within 48 hours of travel ( I recommend this for the day before travel as it can get quite stressful!)
I do agree that it would be better for your pet to bring them later in the year so that they can get used to the weather but if circumstances prevent you from dong this just be careful with them in the heat.
We came in April and ours is still very very hot.
If you need any more info feel free to message me, I may still have forms and info that may benefit you so just let me know and good luck

Jazzdolly, you will get use to Philoz and you'll have to excuse him. He is not particularly a dog lover and doesn't do "animal postings" Other than that he is probably OK!!

Philoz - you are a rascal! But we have grown to understand you ( I think)
However, I do wish the original poster well in the endeavour to bring a 'friend albeit a dog' over here but would say please be very careful of your pet that you cherish as here it is a totally different ball game. There seems to be so many pitfalls and hurdles on a daily basis to cope with for responsible loving dog owners in comparison to the UK.
Best Wishes

Thanks journey1!
We wouldn't move here without our dog! He is very much part of the family pack. I know it will be difficult at first, but he is with us all the time and we can keep a good eye on him.
As for Philoz...he says it as he sees it...No problem! That's why I have no difficulty in saying it as I see it!

Kemal, I see you've got the dog pool up, and Ares is having fun in it. It must be very sturdy, and yes there are always solutions if people take the trouble, so they also need to bring a sturdy dog pool out with them for their dog. Karen was asking me on Saturday if you'rd got it going yet for the dogs. How are they all? I guess you'll be upgrading to a larger pool soon so they can all go in for some "quality water time" maybe some water toys as well !!!!!!

Re: my dog coming over from the UK
This is not the one I got from Karen and Erol, that one is big enough to fit 4 hippos in.
Max and Ice are almost the same with water, they see the hose in my hand and change direction, however, they do not try to run away when I hold and shower them and also both has stood up and got paws wet in the pool so there is hope.
Ares is a whole different story altogether, as soon as you have hose in your hand, he is there to bitedrink from the water stream, and as soon as the pool is ready, he jumps in.
Already Max and Ice showing interest in water as they watch how Ares interacts with it. As soon as I get all of them used to water, big pool will come up

I thought it looked a bit small Kemal from the way you and Karen had described it. I'm surprised at Ice, because he would always put both feet in his big water bowl. Sorry to jazzdolly we are going sort of off topic.
