Cat bitten by poisonous snake

Has anybody got any experience of a cat being bitten by a poisonous snake?
One of my cats was bitten this morning. I rushed her to Pertev and he gave her antivenom, steroids, antihistamines and she was on a drip all day. She is home now but needs an injection every day this week. A locum vet as Pertev is unfortunately away. She is very ill and I am so worried. Has anyone been through this and did the cat survive.

One of our 3 cats was bitten by a snake about 3 years ago.
The vets said she was very lucky to survive.
She wasn't her self for a couple of weeks after the emergency treatment at the vets, off her food and feeling very sorry for herself.
I'm sure with lots of pampering and cuddles your kittie will also make a speedy recovery

Puppylover,
Thank you for the reply, you've given me hope. She is still very swollen and 'out of it'. But she is starting to walk around so fingers crossed.

Our hEli was bitten 9 years ago (sept 2005), in total she had 5 bites, her sister unfortunately was bitten in the jugular and died within 48 hours. The following six months she had 2 relapses where she would not take fluids and had to go on a drip, we were advised she would not grow, she is now 5.2 kilos! Where she was bitten the skin died and she had flaps all over her and the bite on her cheek you could see her teeth and to date she has no fatty flesh where she was bitten . Since then she has been bitten several times and I think she has now an immunity.
Fingers crossed for you

If the cat has survived the first 24 hours then I imagine recovery chances are very good (but I'm no vet!).

My 9 year old dog was bitten last year, was on a drip for about 10/12 days. The first 72 hours are the worst. If your kitty survives that, it will be ok I am sure. I have every thing crossed for you and know exactly how you feel. Keep posting and let us know.

Swelling almost all gone now. She went outside and had a roll in the dirt. She is still a bit 'out of it' though. She still has the canula in and I think (the bandage) is a bit tight so getting Tung, the vet to take it out tomorrow. Pertev, who is on a conference in Berlin, texted me today to see how she is. I have always found him to be such a good, caring vet. I am beginning to relax and hope.

Thank you Blue Butterfly.
I think she is over the worst. Today only a tiny bit of swelling remains and although she is still sleeping a lot she is almost back to her old self. She still has to finish the antibiotic course and then it will be managing the site of the bite, hopefully necrosis won't set in.
Thank you for all your words of encouragement.
x

How is the puss now, fully recovered I hope. Did you have a blood test done to make sure no damage to kidneys and internal organs?
