German Shepherd
Hi, my name is Junior and I am a 4 year old, handsome (even if I say so myself) pure breed German Shepherd. My owner has gone to university in Turkey to study medicine and her parents, who both work full time, cannot give me the time and devotion that I would like. They have said that if I can find a loving home then they would let me go.
I am very lonely at the moment and would love to have someone to come with me on walks and if they have time to play ball with me that would be wonderful. In return I would be a very loyal and loving companion.
I am keeping my paws crossed that there is someone out there who could give me some love. Please ring Corinne, my next door neighbour on 0533 8470530 if you would like to come and meet me.
With much hope in my heart
Love Junior

As I understood it, this is the sort of case that Hope4Pets was set up for. They seem to be involved in other matters at the moment, but perhaps if you were to contact them they might be able to assist.

My other half has put a post on Hope4PetsNorthCyprus about your beautiful dog. If you could follow up with pictures and his story you just never know !!! It's worth a shot if he really does need to find a new home.

What a beautiful dog, at least they are trying to find him a good home and haven't just dumped him. That is how I got mine, dumped in Ozankoy in August from an English speaking family!!

Yes Junior is a lovely dog but he needs more than just being fed. He is on his own too much and would really love some company and attention.

Re: German Shepherd
IMHO you are better to keep this beautiful dog where he is loved & looked after maybe he does not get enough stimulation but he has a far better life than many here or elsewhere for that matter. Presumably his owner will be back from Turkey for holidays?
GSD's are very sensitive loyal dogs he may not get over the trauma of being re-homed & display a completely different personality to how he is now. These new owners may for whatever reason decide they do not want him any more & rehome him again or dump him - if you love him surely you cannot want this for him?

My understanding of this post is that cjtill is posting for a neighbour, it is not their dog! I agee it would be better if he could stay with his owner, but sometimes it is not always possible.

Re: German Shepherd
Owl Lady - I read it that it is the parents of the student who are looking for a home. Unfortunately University Students are responsible for quite a number of strays. Different scenario maybe, but they take on a pet whilst at University for 3 years, return to their homeland and leave the pet behind. This situation is different in that GS has at least been left with people he knows and as Ozankoys so rightly says, they are sensitive dogs and cannot always adapt to change. To lose one owner is bad enough but to lose three might be more than he can cope with.

Yes Sophie, badly worded. I meant it is not cjtill's dog.

All we are trying to do is find this lovely dog a home. We are just worried that if we don't find him a home he could "disappear".

So sorry he does look a beautiful dog but we already have a very jealous one who does not take kindly to other boys invading his territory - good luck with trying to find him somewhere.

Re: German Shepherd
Totally agree, I have had a few different breeds in my life, the GS has to be the best for intelligence, loyalty, fun, and being a mate when you needed one. I have 3 dogs and its just impossible for me to take on another. I hope he finds a good deserving caring home.ITFCMike wrote:This good natured intelligent dog is starved of attention and deserves much much better

Re: German Shepherd
I have to ask this because I can't quite make it out, how long is he left on his own, is he left in a villa or flat, is he chained up, stuck in a cage, left in a garden, has he no stimulating toys to play with, is he neutered.

Does this mean you think the parents of the student might dump him, or your frightened he will be stolen.cjtill wrote:All we are trying to do is find this lovely dog a home. We are just worried that if we don't find him a home he could "disappear".

He is stuck in a cage all day long and not sure how often he gets cleaned out, it is certainly not every day. As for being fed everyday I am not sure. I am worried that the parents might dump him if they can't find an alternative home for him.

Re: German Shepherd
Ahh that explain more (I had a feeling something was missing) and I can understand your concerns. Can you not go back of Hope4Pets, explaining all the details graphically, the more the better. I loathe and despise to see pets in cages (putting dogs into compounds at KAR is a different matter altogether, sadly) Have the "owners" hinted that they might "dump" him, that being the case I suggest you take as many close up pictures of him and remind them that strange as it might seem it is actually against the law to abandon a dog (please don't laugh) and that if he suddenly disappears you can then deal with it. Also get as many close ups as you can and in that event take them to KAR asap, so that if they receive a call about a GS wandering around, but in reasonable condition, they can match the two up. Stray dogs are a bit of a hot potato at the moment as you will have realised.

The owners haven't hinted at all that they will dump him, but if they really want to get rid of him and can't find him a home, who knows! I would just like to find him a home before that even crosses their minds.

Cjtill. Having met you yesterday, I want to just say to everyone else involved with this thread, that you only have the best intentions for this dog, and in no way are you responsible for him or the neighbours. Your involvement is purely for the welfare of the GS. Good on you for trying to help.

Thanks for doing all you are. By plugging away I feel sure that somewhere there will be someone who appreciates what appears to be "genuine" GS. Its hard and sometimes soul destroying finding homes for dogs, but the fact that he hasn't been on the streets might persuade someone to take Junior on.

Thanks Lor51, yes I would dearly love to find Junior a home where he is cherished. The neighbours are on holiday this week so I am looking after him and he is getting cleaned, fed and walked and lots of attention. I have bought him a ball to play with and he is now taking it out on his walks with him, bless him. He is so excited I can't get him to sit still for a picture though!

Poor Junior has been badly let down by people that said they would give him a home. Through no fault of his own he is now back to square one and looking for that loving home he desperately needs.

Hi Dippersgirl,
To be honest I don't know. He has been kept in a cage for 3 years next door. I have taken him out for walks and he hasn't taken much notice of all the cats around.

Re: German Shepherd
My name is Junior and I live in a cage,
it's been my home from an early age.
The days are long with nothing to do,
so lonely here just waiting for you.
I wish for once I could chase a ball,
I promise I'll be good, not bad at all.
To go for a walk would be just great,
but a lonely life seems to be my fate.
A tickle or cuddle would be divine,
a mum or dad to be just mine.
If only you would come I would give you my love,
and thank the stars and the heavens above.
I'm here when you are ready, I'll give you my heart
Please give me the chance of a brand new start.
Junior xx

The owner rehomed him to a policeman in Lefkosa yesterday. I didn't get a chance to say goodbye so I am gutted. Goodness knows what his living conditions are going to be like, I just pray they are better than they were.

Our neighbour has gone to Turkey for a few weeks but when he comes back he said we could go to Lefkosa to see Junior. I am not sure if that is going to make me feel better or worse. I didn't sleep a wink last night worrying about him.
