Hi everyone
I hope to rehome as many dogs as possible outside of North Cyprus, this obviously requires having travelling crates and have an idea.
If anyone who is bringing a pet over here from UK, rather than buying an expensive crate to use potentially only once, a rental fee to use a second hand one which has transported a dog from here to UK. Let's say £50 deposit and once the crate is returned to either here or UK, the fee would be returned?
Does this sound like something pet owners would welcome, I know I would have?
In addition, if anyone has any airline approved pet carriers they no longer wish please let us know?
Many thanks
Moyra

Moyra,
sounds like a good idea but have you really thought it through? How are you going to get the empty crates either to the Uk or back from there! It would mean someone having to use up part of their luggage allowance to carry it, or paying cargo freight charges.
I recall hearing someone saying a while back that they'd had twice had large air boxes destroyed by bad handling in transit at Istanbul.

Hiya
Wasn't really thinking of empty crates was thinking more of crates being re used both ways. In the event of no animal being transported. If anyone had space in their container, it could be brought either way via that way.
There's just so many animals being transported between countries for what is more often than not, a one way journey. Perhaps not so much for cats as the traveling boxes can be used for vet visits. Dogs, however, don't need carriers afterwards really.
I knew if was never going to be easy, but thought if we could manage to get people either side to participate, it could save a lot of money.

Hi Moyra
When I saw this I thought what a good idea, when you send dogs to UK would they go into Stansted? if so what would be beneficial is if you had a contact in the area where the empty crates could be stored until they could be rented for somebody coming over to TRNC.
Just a thought & wishing you good luck

Re: Pet Travel Crate Sharing
It was just an idea I had and clearly requires more thought, but wanted to test the water before I put any more energy into it.
Basically, without all the quarantine requirements in UK now any animals could be taken out their crates and the crates left locally. What I would need to do is find someone local to the various airports who would go to meet the flights take the crates back and meet new owners with crates on their outward journey?
If anyone knows someone who might be willing to do this, it would save owners a fortune and we would have, hopefully a supply of dog crates?
In theory it may work, but in practice?

Moyra & Cally
Just one small fact, currently pets can only be legally flown from the TRNC into the UK with Turkish Airlines to Heathrow Airport ONLY.

Hi
True, but there are a lot of people who fly their animals into the south and cross over.
It's these people who have travel crates that they no longer need that would be needed that I would want to be in contact with to build up a few crates.
They could either donate them or sell them on?
We have no control over animals going to UK, but I'm sure not everyone flying their animal into Heathrow from here lives in the London area so the crates will travel to different areas. The challenge will be getting the crates to where they need to be!
