URGENT - Homes needed for 'Bingo' Mike Alican's Dogs and Cat
As most people know by now our special friend Mike sadly died from cancer last Tuesday and his funeral is this coming Tuesday. We also know that Mike lived for his animals and thought the world of them. So much so that his most important wishes and stress / worry was about what would happen to his beloved animals after he was gone.
A write up about Mike is in the Cyprus Today Newspaper (4-10-2014 if you don't know who he is.
Anyway we now have the urgent problem of finding god homes his precious pets - for Sam - a female Alsatian, Scruff a medium sized female mongrel, and a 3 month old female kitten.
It would be lovely if the dogs could be kept together but I know this would make finding homes even more difficult. Both dogs came from KAR where they were rescued having been very cruelly mistreated by previous owners. Sam still is very shy because of this but very friendly. I do recommend that she is kept as the only pet as she can be jealous of other dogs or cats on the territory - though she mothered the kittens marvelously. She will lick you when she knows you but still run away when ou go to stroke her.
Scruff is also very affectionate and not scared now thankfully.
Both dogs are approx 2+ years old.
Then there is the kitten which is a light tortoiseshell colour, short-haired.
We have put an appeal in the newspaper today but the urgency is that the landlord of Mike's house will put in a new tenant and so we have only got until after Mike's funeral on Tuesday in which to re-house them.
Naturally Mike really was stressed about them possibly ending up back at the rescue kennels as they had already spent so much time their after their trauma.
I spent last night at the house to keep them company as they are pining for him and look so forlorn that it broke my heart to leave. They were so quiet when I left when they normally bark when people come and go.
Are you able to help in any way to find homes. I cannot take them as I already have my dog and cat in an apartment!
I don't have any pictures of them because I have no camara on my phone. But we can get some taken.
My mobile number is 0533 8724531

Is there anyone who can help rehome Mike's so much loved animals. We will be paying our last respects to him tomorrow and if only we could take with us the news of a new family and home for them. Mike did so much for many, helping in which ever way he could. We cannot help the 'Big Man' himself now but in his memory we can try and help the ones he loved and cared for. Thank you.

There was even a very nice appeal today by Wendy the vicar at Mile's funeral, for homes to be found for these dogs. I do so hope this will be soon.

Re: URGENT - Homes needed for 'Bingo' Mike Alican's Dogs and
Hi, just wanted to give some details about sam's life prior to mike adopting her, in the hope that it may help her find her forever home. Sam did not come from kar, she was an abandoned dog in girne, along with her companion a white puppy. I first took notice of her because of her pitiful body condition and started to feed her daily on my way to work in girne. She was extremely weary and would not even feed out of my hand. After a few weeks she and the puppy disappeared, I worried all night and to my amazement when i opened my front gate in ozankoy there was sam and the puppy. The puppy shortly disappeared but sam stayed in the zorlu kasap carpark in the center of ozankoy. She was extremely emaciated and soon did not have the energy to raise her head, she was very sick. It took me a week of trying to loop a lead over her head to coax her into my garden and in the end she would only follow my dogs inside. Once inside it was a challenge rehabilitating and reassuring her, it took 2 weeks for me to stroke her. When mike met sam, he fell in love instantly and sam responded wonderfully to his kind nature. Sam is an amazing young dog, who has so much potential and love to offer, in spite of her traumatic start in life

Fingers crossed a home is found, unfortunately so many are looking for them
My words feel shallow but hopefully by writing this it will bring it back to the top and somebody may feel they have room for another 1 or 2.

Re: URGENT - Homes needed for 'Bingo' Mike Alican's Dogs and
We have now read in yesterdays paper that Mike's two dogs have been returned into the care of KAR . There is no doubt that they will be looked after and cared for but they must be frightened and confused after losing their Dad and home. It would be so nice if someone could do as Mike did and take them into their hearts and let them be part of their family. KAR. would wish this for them as well, we are sure!
Mike did so much for others on the island, is their someone who could do this for him in his memory - We know how much he loved them!

bttt Do so wish we could rehouse these two, Mike would be devastated to know they were back in KAR (no offence to KAR) but they do need a home environment.

How sad for the dogs, but thank goodness KAR have stepped in to help.
I expect this is everyone's nightmare come true, fingers crossed along with the others a home can be found.
