Some way to euthanise an animal, if found mortally wounded?

There was a dead dog this morning on the Lapta road near Lambousa. I spoke to a few friends who had also seen it and it was certainly dead.
My questionto anyone is, if you find a mortally wounded animal, at some godforsaken time of morning or night, what can you do?
I do not know, Icould not leave an animal in pain, I do not have a gun, I would not know what to do
Has anyonehadthis experience and what did you do?

Surfmeetseast, sorry I don't have a number as I no longer live there. There are many vets that would put an injured animal to sleep, the only other suggestion would be to ring KAR, they will have numbers.

Owl Lady is right as per usual.
Petcross give 24/7 emergency care and we unfortunately had to use them in a situation as the poster is asking about.
We were witness to a dog being run over, driver not stopping leaving the poor soul at the side of the road seriously hurt.
After ringing Petcross, this was about 9.00pm, they said we needed to get the dog to them which we did but the poor thing was beyond medical help - it had a broken back and numerous other life threatening injuries.
We were all in tears as the dog was put to sleep.
The Vet said that if left, the dog would have suffered a slow and agonizing death - this way we were able to show it love and tenderness in its final moments of life.
It was a beautiful, young Pointer maybe only 9 months old who will never be forgotten.
BBB's other half.

I don't know about a dog. We once found a mortally injured hedgehog. This was before mobiles and we were out walking miles from anywhere. We think a combine harvester sliced a big chunk off the top of him. He kept wanting to walk. My husband suggested gently suffocating him. We put him in a plastic bag and sealed it and waited with him till the end. He just went to 'sleep'. It wasn't easy for us, but we could not have left it either.

Thank you toall of you caring people who have answered. I suppose I wish that I could have an injection, kept in the car, andhave the knowledge of how to get it into the vein, as I am sure we would all dread having to lift a big dog into the car ifthe injuries were bad.
Sorry, a bit of a negative post, but it could happen to any of us anytime xx
