Just seen a photo on facebook (came via the Cornerhouse in Ozankoy), of small lumps of food, with sharp nails hidden in them.

Been put out to attract dogs and cats !!!!

I don't know whether this is just Ozankoy (at the moment), but please be aware, and tell your friends.

How people can do this I just don't know.

Sometimes I despair of this island.

Well done Kemal for putting things straight. It amazes me what goes around on the internet and people immediately believe and panic without investigating further.
I have received many warnings in the past from friends only to find out they are just pranks or scams.

Totally agree with this sort of rubbish giving idiots ideas to copycat. Some people just do not understand the harm they may be causing.

I don't think its here. Having spoken to the Corner House (on Facebook). They are saying the source is the 'Hayvansever' Facebook page, which is a non-profit organization,dedicated to animals and their owners.

I've had a look but can't seem to find it on there.

Metin no need for apology, easy mistake to make, it could have been the TRNC, after all its not like the people love animals.

Before we slag off at Turkish Cypriots it's perhaps wise to remember that there is cruelty not just in North Cyprus. I have Turkish Cypriot friends who have two dogs and love their animals. I know other Turkish Cypriots in passing who also care for and love animals. Wild generalisations are unnecessary, negative and reflect more on the person making those comments than those who are the target.

Belle, you are right in saying that no apology is required as we all make mistakes but I am a TC and love animals and treat them well as pets. Can't understand why your posts are so vindictive? As MoBry states: cruelty to animals is a worldwide issue.

I did it again. a long posting which got lost because I did not heed the 'other posting been made'.
So to be brief, I merely said that people should check with Snopes when not sure about Facebook postings which could be years old and misleading. But thanks to Metin for reminding us to be continue to be vigilant in order toprotect the animals around us. The sausages was in abergavenny in Wales and was a one off (thankfully).

As to my editing the last post, - sorryguys- but we really do not need to throw verbal bricks at eachother. I find the best way in life to bring out the best in others is encouragement and not criticism, and words in print can be very upsetting when unaccompanied with facial expressions or body language.

No, it;'s not, Carole If I had seen the posting that upset others, that would have been edited too. It slipped through we mods and should not have done.
But I am sure you would agree with us all that two wrongs don't make a right, and that we don't want KibKom to sink to a lowest common denominator. Maybe Belle was feeling particularly upset, I don't know, but please be assured - we prefer that no-one unduly criticises any other kibkomer. As they say 'Don'et let me judge my brother until I have walked an hour in his moccasins.'

I don't like moccasins they are too flat and my brother lives to far away to walk in his :lol

Must admit flat shoes do nothing for me, and my brother is long dead so that is a walk I donot want to take..................

Soner, I will apologise for my generalisation in my remarks but having lived there for a number of years and having seen multiple acts of cruelty, what is said of borne of truth. Yes cruelty to animals is worldwide and it goes on in the UK, the difference is we have proper organisations that prosecute and imprison those inflicting cruelty to animals, in TRNC the animals have no protection, all there is is KAR who are a complete waste of time, IMO of course.

I know you are a TC but you live in the UK.

Marion I did not criticise another Kibcomer, I didn't single any one person out.

Trying to remember what you said Belle, but something about all TC's I think. and one only has to see how many DO care by their attendance at the dog shows. as to KAR, i feel sorry for them because they have no powers - not like RSPCA in U.K. every country develops at different rates, and N.Cyprus may have a long way to go to catch up with other places (many of which seem to be going backwards now ! - crime and cruelty on the increase), and I still think one must look to the good that gets done, and one cannot condemn any one race for any particular bad deeds done by the few.

as to Soner, he may live in U.K but he still has a place and a family here and a large chunk of his heart, - so be kind to him, please! Maybe he is the kind that tries to see stars rather than mud -which is often a very difficult thing to do. (I know!)

Marion I understand all of the pitfalls of the TRNC, sometimes I am a little hard on certain things but as an animal lover it is hard to ignore what goes on, I prefer animals to people and will always come down on their side, they have noone to speak up for them.

Belle KAR needs more money and more volunteers to cope with the problems in the TRNC. At least they are trying their best with the limited power and resources they have. We should be thankful that they even exist.

Rowan it is my opinion, you do not have to agree with me. Any organisation that calls itself KYRENIA ANIMAL RESCUE and does not rescue animals in distress is not fit for purpose, bearing in mind they are a charity that collects from the public, and before you say they are full, yes they probably are because they don't do anything sensible to improve the situation, my opinion.

No offence to anyone meant, but I feel this thread is going a bit of course and should be closed to further comment, although it is a good topic and something else for dog owners to make sure they keep their eyes open for, so thank you Metin!
