Sorry to be a pain. I'm with multimax which I now totally understand that when I'm over my 2mb then another 2mb is reduceded to nearly zero every day due to their limits. Can any on tell me who's provider doesn't limit and runs at above 6mb when the trnc does get internet from the main land? Thanks

Traffic management is something that was not explained to me when entering the contract. Other providers I guess are the same but it's nice to be told of the limitations!

Bandwidth Management as it is called is I suspect used by all ISP's on the Island. When a part of the island gets a power outage or "power cut", that segment in the managed bandwidth is subtracted from the load. This means that the "balance" for the whole system is affected and has to be rebalanced and retuned by an ISP technician or sysadmin when mass client reconnections occur. This is dependent on the Bandwidth management unit's capabilities which may be good or bad depending on the brand. For example lets say Lapta has a cut. When the power returns there will be a number of client computers reconnecting to their respective base stations. The bandwidth management software in the management unit then gets flooded by reconnections and a manual rebalance might be needed. It's not that as a client you are "limited" (except of course by your package). It's because there are other factors like power cuts and the most recent explanations which are definitely true. One of these being KKTC telecom and the other, the links into Russia and Austria where fibre optic set up is under maintenance and TTnet restructuring. If you are getting your information via speed test web pages, they wont show you where the issues are. You need to know command prompt syntax for that and even the responses may possibly only be deciphered by an experienced network engineer. No one ISP with a WIFI network can control Kibtek, TTnet, KKTC Telekom or control the problems they may have. You should have a reasonable nominal speed based on the package, If it falls below without an explanation then talk to the ISP.

Yes multimax should explain this before any contract is taken out with them. I pay for 20mit and most day do not even get 2 mit. Most day can't even load Facebook. But everything I contact them they say I've used my allowance, even if we have been out all day with no Internet on. When we moved out here 3 years ago we have a fantastic service from multimax, something has given wrong somewhere.

I must agree with what people are saying and also understand when the network is full, but to advertise 20mbps but give you only 1.5 hours to watch tv without the service been reduced its very annoying. I even asked if I could pay more for my bandwidth when I'm out." No as most holiday users don't use their allowance, so there is no facility to upgrade"
That's why I'm asking people out there who watch tv with other internet companies who they use and do they have a 2gb allowance which real is low.

Muzer I would like to know also if others can watch tv with other internet companies and how the service is. For the past 2-3 weeks there has been no problem at all but the past 4-5 nights it has been buffering continually. Back to what is normal I presume.

We have this problem and my TV supplier introduced ultra low stations for BBC1,ITV,BBC2, channel 4. and SKY News

It runs with 0.5 meg of internet. The quility of the picture is not as good as usual but it is watchable without any buffering.

Hi so I believe I'm with them as well I think there are 5 channels it's the company no one can mention.
Does anyone know if trnc has 4G? And if so how much does it cost on a pay as you go? Cheers

If anyone is only getting 1.5 hours viewing before having their speed reduced due to 'Bandwidth Management', then they are probably watching in 'HD' (High definition) quality. This uses 4 times as much data as 'SD' (Standard definition) quality viewing.

HD is also more prone to 'buffering' problems, due to the higher data rate requirement.

Switch to 'SD' or 'Lower definition' (depending on the service that you are using) and you should get a full evening's viewing with no problems.

I'm in Alsancak, and I haven't seen any buffering problems at all recently, apart from the occasions where MM have notified me of technical issues of one sort or another. - and our tv is on for most of the day...

If you have any issues with slow internet speeds (below 4Mbps) which are not due to Bandwidth Management (i.e. excessive data usage on your part) report the problem immediately - they should investigate and rectify the situation.

Don't leave it until the next day, as the 'fault' may have disappeared by then!

Don't assume that problems that you experience are due to a 'general problem' or are due to the same causes as anyone else - there'll always be someone with a problem of one sort or another, that's in the nature of computers and the internet.

Hi Keith I was in this type of buisness for many years but I still never classed myself as an expert. I turned the modem off so my phone never picked up the wifi connection and when I was away from the house iPad ect were turned off I was watching my channels on SD most of the time but was told I managed to use my data allowance within 1.5 hours. And it's on thier website as well. I contacted the company three times when and as soon as the speed dropped to see if I had a problem with the connection and was told you've used your allowance.
Unfortunately there to my knowledge there is no way for you check with the mag box how much data I have really used. Maybe someone can confirm if there is away please.
Keith since you are on do you know if the trnc has 4G as a backup?
Cheers

Hi Muzer, I never actually 'log off', so it probably looks as though I am 'active' on the forum all of the time...

I am not aware of any 4G service in TRNC presently (although others may prove me wrong!) - but the 3G coverage is pretty good.

I really don't know how you are managing (allegedly ) to use up your data allowance in 1.5 hours by watching SD quality TV!

Is your WiFi secured with a good strong password, to ensure that no one else can use your internet connection?

I'm sorry if I'm covering ground of which you are well aware, but I'm trying to eliminate the obvious....

Thanks for the advice your right to mention anything as I've been away from the game for sometime and I do forget, until I'm reminded cheers

can anyone point out where exactly you saw Multimax advertising these speeds?

MM offers Gold or Platinum packages, all details are listed on our website. We have not been advertising any speeds with our packages for a while now.

It's when you speak to the staff on the help line and in the office face to face they tell you your getting upto 20mbps. So I presume when someone tells you you are getting upto that speed that's where you are normally sitting at.
Not only that I have not signed a new contract wit MM for my other place where I signed up for 20mbps.

Of course its edited. Thank you for pointing out an archaic information that has been forgotten to be taken out earlier.

As for the office telling customers that they are getting 20mbps, I have investigated and found out that, this is not the case. When a customer calls with speed problems, we usually check their speeds remotely, and tell customers 'you are getting X mbps currently'. That is the only time any speeds are mentioned. If you believe this to be false, please provide with date/time of such conversation so we can check phone/camera records. Thanks

It is a pity but Multimax (which used to be superb) is not coming up with the goods any longer.

Does anyone know if Fixnet is available in the Kyrenia area or is it only in Famagusta ?
