Multimax uses speedtest tool provided by
http://www.speedtest.net, which has become the most popular speedtesting website on the internet.
We have placed our webiste in Lefkosa, from the point just before our Internet exit to Turk Telekom. From customer to our NOC (Network Operations Center) is what we control as Multimax, anything beyond this point is outside of our control, meaning we cannot guarantee QoS (Quality of Service) beyond this point. Because every provider in N.Cyprus gets their Internet from the same upstream provider (TTNet), it is safe to assume that the performance beyond this point would be the same regardless of what provider you use.
If you use any 3rd party Internet speedtest tool, you can simply testing your connection speed from your house to a specific location on the Internet. In case of Multimax, considering testing to a server in the UK, only 10-15% of the path to this testing server is under Multimax control.
On top of eveything else mentioned above, web based speedtesting has many 'technical issues' and is not really the best tool for testing the speed you are able to get from your broadband provider. Why do we use it? because it is convenient, its simple enough for 'regular folks' and it does give you some indication whether you have a serious problem with your connection. It is by no means a reliable or very accurate means of checking connection speeds or quality.
As I explained things for Multimax, I am pretty sure most of them apply to other providers as well. If you are willing to put in some effort, I can show you better ways to check your maximum achievable connection speed from your provider. Send me an email
