Google bots are computer programs that trawl the world wide web and index web pages for the search engine company google. If you want your site to show up when someone types a google search in on a relevant subject then you want to be visited by google bots.

You could always google 'google bots' for an answer by the way

Hi Angela,
I will try and simplify.
Seach engines like Google of Yahoo send programmes out to read all websites that are on the web, they read the coding and written content of the webpages and collate the information for indexing the site on their search engines. If you "right click" your mouse on a plain area of your screen and then click on "View Source" from the pop up menu, a page will appear with all the coding and text that creates the page that you are viewing. This is what the Bots (also called spiders) view. If a word like Mel7348 is repeated enough times within the content then the page will be indexed using that word. Try typing in your username and see what comes up in a google search, these links have been created by Bots.

Blue Butterfly, not really like that... No Big Brother. Just a programme that sorts out words for people to search in order to find what they are looking for more easily. For instance if you were selling flowers via your website and your shop is in Girne, then you would want people in Girne to find your website via Google search. So, if you incorporated the keywords "Flowers Girne" in your written content and back-end coding several times, then the bots would pick these words up and index them appropriately to link to your website. So when someone types in these words in the search, your site will come up in the list of thousands or millions of links that also use these keywords. The sites with keywords used in a balanced way, with good traffic, low download times and abide by Google SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) rules, will be pushed to the top.
