Hi.
Can anyone advise me please on how to restore my files, I am not very computer literate and a few weeks ago got a message to say the all my important files, photographs etc have been encrypted


This message comes up everytime I turn on the computer, it gives me loads of intructions but it also says that I can only restore my files by ''obtaining the key and paying''.

I have tried a system restore, which didn't work.

i am so upset as I have some precious photographs.

Your computer has possibly been infected with a virus such as 'CryptoLocker'.

If you have previously backed up your files, pictures etc, to a memory card, then the easy way is to get someone to wipe your computer completely, re-install the operating system, and then restore your files from the memory card.

If you have not got a back-up, then you are in a difficult position.

Read this for an explanation.

It may be 'locking the stable door after the horse has bolted', but in future you should make sure that you have a properly configured 'anti malware' program installed - and never click on any links unless you are 100% certain what you're doing.

check that your provider is a legal one i bought a desk top in Kyrenia complete with windows 7 but after 3 months it asked me for a key as it was a pirate copy.

Will 'restore function' restoring to an earlier time not help?

Maybe not in this case, but an easy thing to try first.

I tried a system restore Brian 24001 but it didn,t work.

Keithcaley, I don't think I have back up files, I read the link you gave me and I think it might be a good idea if I get in touch with Samboy, thanks for advice and phone number.
