Multimax VPN

If you've updated your iPhone/iPad to iOS10 you may have noticed that the Multimax VPN has disappeared from your configuration settings.

This seems to be because it used the non-secure PPTP protocol. Hopefully they (Multimax) will fix this sooner rather than later.

From support.apple.com:
If you’ve set up a PPTP VPN server, iOS 10 and macOS Sierra users won't be able to connect to it. iOS 10 and macOS Sierra will remove PPTP connections from any VPN profile when a user upgrades their device.
Even though PPTP protocol is still available on iOS 9 and earlier or OS X El Capitan and earlier, we don't recommend that you use it for secure, private communication.

...So they stop you using it to watch TV!

I'm really glad that I never got ensnared by the Apple 'web'...

Phoned MM support - they know about the problem.

Their solution? Don't use iOS10!!

Will they fix it? Maybe.

Time to look for a new VPN

Are you using it for TV viewing?

If so, install KODI - then you'll be able to watch anything that you want, without needing a VPN at all...

No - not TV.
I hate to admit it (whisper it please!) - I use it to download BBC Podcasts - in my case including The Archers
For some reason they'll download without a VPN but will then fail when processing. Maybe I should just try to find out why and fix it!

MM free VPN now supports L2TP secure protocol... use shared ipsec key: tvmax

Has there been a change to the free VPN MM supply to work properly with Windows 10 ?? My computer was "upgraded" by Microsoft one dark night and now the existing VPN crashes and freezes most times we try to watch ITV Hub and other UK based players....

The MM VPN settings changed on 27 September (see above).
If your problems started on or after that date then you need to update your settings as advised.
If your problem is just poor performance then ignore the above and check out this thread.

We watched BBC Iplayer with the VPN switched on last night for a couple of hours on catch up programmes with no problems at all, when we switched to ITV Hub,it stuttered, froze and crashed repeatedly.

Maybe ITV is more active in trying to block the VPN ??

MM's online help was green,so sent a message, but just got computer script saying the message could not be sent,so maybe it was not online after all !!

Baffled now ....

If they were blocking the VPN, you would get a message saying 'Not available in your area' or something similar.

Rita,
I will try to help, but I don't understand what you mean by 'get a number' ! - What number? Kbasat never mentioned anything to do with numbers!

On the Multimax website, you will find instructions on how to install a VPN - although I don't think that you need a VPN to use the service provided by NTV...

I still don't understand what your problem is, or what number exactly you want, or why you need it.

No use on technology but friend downloaded a VPN number for me. Multimax told me to look up instructions and a friend did it in a couple of minutes. I use it both for iplayer and the hub. You probably are brighter on this stuff but does tell you how to get it.

Thank you

Depending on the actual version of android....

Settings - Wireless and networks > more (settings) > VPN > Add VPN (may be just a '+' symbol).

You may be prompted to choose a method to use for 'unlocking' your screen - this is because you are going to store a password for the VPN - so just choose the method that suits you...

Then enter the details of the VPN -

The general parameters for the Multimax VPN are as follows: -

server : vpn.mmcyp.com
username : tvmax
password : tvmax

VPN type is PPTP (unless they've altered it, as per a post from MM elsewhere )

Once you've got it installed, you need to navigate to the VPN in settings every time that you want to turn it on or off, which sounds a bit of a pain, but you can download a free 'widget' from Google Play Store to put on your Home Screen, which will act as a shortcut to the place where you can turn the VPN on or off.

Have fun!

Yes, that was it! - although I think that all of my devices (all resolutely non-apple/IOS) are still running on the old protocol, so I'm not sure whether it's 'compulsory' unless you're an apple addict (or an Archers addict )...

I watch TV via Multimax VPN. I have suffered the stuttering, freezing and crashing described by Caveboy most evening over the last few weeks. Both on BBC and ITV. Usually this has been very late in the evening(after approx ll pm). It has also crashed when I have been writing emails. Usually I have given up and gone to bed as that is far too late to be phoning Multimax and/or fiddling about with the controls. FRustrating because I was only on the computer that late because I had become involved in a programme! When the email were urgent I rebooted and the internet came back. A couple of nights ago the internet failed completely for about half an hour - when hadnt even got the PC switched on , let alone watching TV, but was on a language tuition progamme on my mobile, Since these occurrences seemed to me to be mostly at a particular time and I got acceptable reception earlier in the evening and on the odd occasion I switched on during the day, it seemed logical to assume this was an isp problem and I would just waste more time and money and possibly make matter worse by trying to alter settings I dont understand and in which I have had no training.

This morning the mobile was again stuttering and running slow. A Cypriot friend told me a lot of people are having problems with the internet recently and it is not confined to Multimax. He was not sure if it was the "leaves on the lines " - I mean the connections from Turkey - again, but is trying to find out!

It does seem to me it would be better if the ISPs honestly admitted there was a problem and that suggestions that people's own equipment is at fault and they should make adjustments , even if well meant, is not particularly helpful and could result in a lot of wasted time for those who have other things to do.

Re The Archers : I get this and other BBC Radio programmes via Radio IPlayer on the Internet without the VPN switched on. Admittedly this is "listen again" rather than live but I see no difficulty as "listen again" allows me to listen when I Want to and not be tied to UK timings. I don't usually download it, but have done so and replayed without problem.

I thought that this was because - unlike TV- you dont need a licence to listen to the Radio in the UK, also the costs of producing and distributing radio is a fraction of those of TV (according the the Beebs Website), However I have been told this is wrong, but I forget why! Whatever - long may it last, I can live without TV if I have to and have done so in the past, but get withdrawal symptoms for the Archers!

OK me old pall, me old beauty?
