With yet another year where two beautiful race horses have had to be destroyed as a result of sustained injuries whilst competing in The Grand National yesterday, how do you feel about this situation?

I have attached a link to a poll inviting opinions as to what the future should hold for The Grand National and horse racing in general so if you have an opinion, please take part.

PS Hope those not in UK can access it ok?

Hi Moyra, why not create a poll on this forum? You have the permissions to do so, at the bottom of page.

It should be banned. My grandfather ran a few betting shops and I remember watching the tv and the horses getting injured and thats years ago nothings changed.

I agree, It should have been banned years ago, can,t see it happening though, too much big money involved. It must be heartbreaking for the genuine animal lovers involved, ie the stable lads and lasses who have personally looked after the horses. To the owners it,s just a horse, probably a case of collect the insurance money and buy another one.

You would I think be suprised at how attached owners are to their horses, it will be deeply upsetting for them as well. Personally I have only experience of Flat racing but I don't suppose national hunt owners are that much different.

Welcome to the forum

I am sure the owners do get upset, at the thought of how much they have laid out on the horse and the disappointment that it,s earning potential has come to an end.

I used to watch showjumping and if the horse did well it was petted and praised.

I have seen those horses who unseated riders or pulled up, being kicked and punched, it,s all a matter of prestige and money.

I will never be convinced that they are animal lovers.

Should have been banned years ago, the horses are of prime importence, anybody else, jockeys, owners, trainers or bookmakers do not matter.

Ban it. Total exploitation of animals by mankind for their own greedy purposes. They call this sport?

Fail to see the connection between cars and exploited racehorses

we did a sweep at the crows nest for the race which sold out in no time, so next time we do something like this instead of paying it all out as prize money at least 1/2 of it should go to a charity
