After living here for 30 years I have at long last found an English speaking Plumber called Yenol. He is very professional and extremely communicative which is such a pleasant change. Always calling me before hand regarding arrival times, and very punctual, like a breath of fresh air.
He has been catching up with plumbing work over the last two days, nothing is too much trouble for him, and he is a total perfectionist.
We felt very comfortable having him around and it's such a relief to be able to discuss our concerns and have him solve our problems.
All of this and he is very reasonable indeed.

He fitted the pump pressure device to the top of the pump (i supplied) , connected 4 wires, and face plate 4 screws. £70, was it worth £70 you tell me !

No more will I pay an extortionate amount for a simple task, BUT of course each to their own.

tutor4u, I have fitted lots of these pressure switches myself over the years and it seems like a simple task but - there is always a but - you can do it yourself if, you have the tools and are aware of the electrical hazards of water/electricity. It is not brain surgery and for me I would say it was an expensive job but if you don't know how to do it and don't have the equipment to do it with then you need to factor in the purchase price of those items as well. Depending on the age of the pump you may also have problems fitting the pressure switch to the pump and of course the outflow from the pump will need to be adjusted to take in the size of the pressure switch as well (unless you simply bend everything to fit!!

To be fair to the plumber, you have given a very simple explanation of what he did, so can I ask if the NEW pressure switch was a replacement for one that had ceased to work? If so then there was the job of disconnecting the old switch from the pump and removing it from the pump plus reconnecting it to the pump both mechanically and electrically and reconnecting the existing wire connection from the mains to the new pressure switch - considerably more than just 4 wires!

I agree with you that on face value it was not a cheap job but you are paying for skill and experience as well and need to take that into consideration. Provided you are fit and able bodied it is not a difficult task if you know what you are doing. Not trying to teach you how to suck eggs as everyone's situation is different but can I point out that Google is a wonderful tool if you ever want to try this yourself in the future. Take care out there.

As a retired Production/Mechanical Engineer (I. ENG) No repair task with the water/ heating is beyond my skill set, So while I will support local tradsmen, I will not tolerate being ripped off.

Unfortunately whole place is becoming a rip off and they wonder why people are leaving in droves
