Two people can't watch different programmes and I'm not happy. Him indoors watching footers and when I want my programme, he loses his and vice versa. We don't have NTV on the TV yet, but on a desk top PC and a laptop. Will it still be like this as/when/if we have in on the TV. It also seems to have scuppered Skype as well. Is this usual?

Well contacting NTV direct is probably the best thing to do, they can give definitive answers. In the mean time this is my understanding as to how NTV works.

NTV do two variants of their packages. The cheaper one is for web based / XMBC access only. With this package you can only have one concurrence usage. To be fair to NTV if they did not limit it thus, there would be nothing from stopping someone from buying a single subscription and sharing it with any number of other people. They also do a more expensive version of their packages that is for web based / XMBC access and access via a mag250 box that connects direct to a TV. With this package you can have one concurrent usage on the mag250 box and a separate single concurrent usage via the web based interface. So with this package and a mag250 box you could watch one channel via the mag250 box whilst at the same time watch a different channel via the web based interface but could not watch two different channels at the same time both using thew web interface or both using a mag250 box. Anyway I hope that makes some kind of sense ?

There should be no reason that NTV, via web interface or via mag250 box 'scuppers' Skype, though it is not entirely clear what 'scuppers' actually means? It is possible for usage of NTV to affect skype (and visa versa) if your internet connection does not have enough bandwidth to support both running at the same time. Each channel you watch on NTV requires around 1.5mbs. Skype with two way video at a guess probably requires around the same. So if you are watching 2 different NTV channels (total bandwidth needed = 3mbs) and trying to run skype at the same time, needing another 1.5mbs then provided your internet connection is delivering more than 4.5mbs they should all be fine. If however your internet connection is only delivering say 3mbs then trying to run 2 NTV channels and skype all at the same time will cause problems, with skype or NTV or probably both.
