There was an article in the mail the other day which was saying how the SBA's are failing to stop illegal bird killing on their land, very sad!

Somewhere on Hope 4pets Facebook page there is a petition against this which I have signed.

Choose your spouse, friend, relative, in difficult days. On a good day, no one shows their purity.

It's a multi-million pound industry run by the Mafia... and anyone who tries to stop this illegal business finds their lives and their family's lives threatened... it is no joke.

Some men who took up the fight against it were run-off the island and the police told them there was no way they could protect them and they had to go into hiding....

Groucho, as this illegal activity is taking place on land within the Sovereign Base Areas (SBAs) (UK territory) why cannot the SBA authorities use military personnel to stop it? No risk to military families from the 'Mafia' in these circumstances.

This cannot be something that as recently started, so logic tells me that attempts to stop this barbaric practice in the past, have been tried, and obviously totally ignored, sadly.

Well come_on_aylin, obviously his attempt was met with the usual response to his many interventions on a number of subjects (sic).

Fact:- Birdlife Cyprus get international funding which is meant to cover the whole of the island and they don't share any of these funds with Kuskor. I think this is totally wrong but hey-ho, it is what it is.... blooming typical!

I'm not saying don't support BLC but I am saying Kuskor needs more of our help....

Kuskor membership is only 25tl a year and all our funds go into conservation related research and activities. E.g. We are in the process of establishing a year-round conservation area to be a permanent nature reserve and we are also trying to set up a research and monitoring group in an effort to combat illegal hunting (illegal use of mist nets and lime sticks).

If you want to join Kuskor please visit our stall No. 14 at the Saturday Market, Lemar Catalkoy 9am - 1pm.

BTW - members get a free calendar (normally 10tl) full of lovely photos of birds by local photographers of the highest quality
