People who drive into your car in car parks and then drive off are the norm out here - have had our car quite badly damaged twice and it was always properly parked in a designated space but that seems to make no difference.

Go to the police station in Girne and fill a form that you lost your driver's license, which was in your wallet. If somebody handles it to the police,they will get in touch with you. I lost my wallet in the same area (near IS BANK). Was found in 2 days and given to me. Everything was inside (cards, driver's license, etc), except for the 100TL I had there, but anyway I was planning to give them as a reward to the person, who brings it back, as the other stuff and documents inside were quite important for me.

During my life I've mislaid/dropped/lost my wallet in several different countries (much to my wife's dismay) and it's always been handed back 'fully-loaded'.... People finding dropped wallets are nearly always good people....

I've also had my wallet stolen by pick-pockets - caught one in the act in Istanbul near the Spice Market, put a bear-hug on him and called 'police' at the top of my voice.... the local stall-holders took him aside and nearly killed him and I had to intervene to save his life... When they turned-up, I still asked the police to prosecute him, especially as he had a sob-story about a wife and kids. They all need a life lesson - I decided.

I hope you get yours back too....

Lost my Passport in the 'Land registry debacle ' retraced steps and mad panic , last resort Police station Girne and there it was waiting for me , there are good people about. Hope you have same luck as I did.

Lost wallet Thursday .. Contained bank cards, UK & turkish driving licences & considerable amount of money ..

Harita, please don't give up. My friend lost her purse near the bank in Girne, it was eventually found in Girne police station.
Also, if you have your address in your purse, try your local police station, in case it's been handed in there.

I have been to Girne police station .. I have to go back on Monday with a 10TL stamp ..
If I understand correctly, this will be to apply for a new TRNC driving licence ..

BTTT for last time ..
Tomorrow will have to get the ball rolling for a new UK driving licence & a UK bank card ..
Road tax required for south soon, and £25 put in UK account by daughter for "Mothers Day", can't get at it ..
Pedicure & facial will have to go on hold .. LOL ..

In a way it almost makes you wish you could go back in time. When you lost your purse/wallet, you lost money and perhaps a photograph or two if it was a wallet. Driving licences were a piece of paper you kept at home, to be shown at the nearest Cop Shop the next day if necessary. If you carried a cheque book, then you rang up the bank and stopped the rest of the book asap. Now of course, you lose the lot, plastic cards, plastic driving licences, plastic Bus Passes in the UK, plastic store cards, the list goes on. How much simpler it used to be!! Or is it just me?

Sophie..... simpler times now gone for ever, I was telling some youngster the other day how when I was their age you had to find a telephone box when you wanted to call a friend they just looked at me as though I was mad!!!

Went to the police station yesterday (Monday) along with a 10TL stamp as requested ..
Desk officer leaned out of the window, talked to a policeman outside (smoking), then told me to come back next Monday ..
I am resigned to the fact I have seen the last of it .. There was enough information inside, ie. home address on turkish licence,
different bank cards & BRS member card for it to be handed in, even if the money had gone ..
Can't wait another week, have requested new bank cards, can't get sterling without one, UK driving licence done on-line ..
Turkish licence will have to wait till next Monday .. Just my luck to be pulled up .. Watch this space ..

Final update .. All bank cards & both driving licences finally replaced ..
English debit card ... Free of charge .. Received this morning, can now draw sterling ..
Turkish debit card & credit card ... Free of charge ..
Other Turkish bank debit card ... 50TL charge ..
UK driving licence replacement ... £14 charge (16 months to run of 3 year over 70 licence) .. Received this morning ..
A bit more complicated to replace than to renew
Turkish driving licence replacement ... 10.5TL stamp at police station, 106TL at tax office ..
Achieved with a 14 month expired residency stamp in passport .. Opted not to renew residency being "over 60" ..

All's well that ends well, back to normal .. Expensive lesson learned ..
