Bureaucracy gone mad - yet again

I called into my local pharmacy yesterday and the owner very apologetically advised me that in future they had been told by the Police they have to close between 1pm and 3pm.

The authorities out here have no conception of running any retail concern and have no consideration for the needs of the customer. They just dream up riduculous new rules on a day when they can find nothing better to do.

I prefer to shop between 12 and 3pm as there seem to be fewer idiot drivers on the road at those times, but now I have to change my routine to accommodate some petty "jobsworth" and his crazy new rule. Don't these people realise that the retail trade out here goes a long way towards fueling the struggling economy and they should be looking at improving trading hours - not cutting them.

Surely this is part of the normal " Summer working times! There is always a duty chemist on during those time, posted on the door. Some depts close even longer

I posted about this last week my local pharmacy were very annoyed. Yes it is summer time hours but longer than last year.If they dont they get fined by the police. Surely this should be up to the owners when they open and close. Duty chemists are not always near by either so if you dont drive?? Keep asking some one else?

A bit like the banks closing at lunchtime which is the only time a lot of people, especially businesses, can get there!

Thats one reason I use Universal bank they dont close for lunch.

Closing during the afternoon used to be the norm for everyone here (and, I think, most hot countries). But the thing was they opened again in the evening so people could shop etc. in the cool of the evening, I do wish they still did that Remember that every year the Gvt. put out health warnings for older and other vulnerable people to avoid going out in the sun between 11am and 3pm. Not everyone can afford air conditioned cars, or indeed cars at all, and not all locations allow you to park near your destination. Nor is all the population of the country retired and able to shop when they want to.

That happens where we live, in Bavaria. Same with Post Offices and many shops.

And they shut for 1.5 hours.

i have no problem with them closing I i think the choice should be theirs though. Smacks of big brother to me.

Some people realise they are living in a Mediterranean country and accept, even like, the traditions which include siesta after lunch. Only "Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun"!

Lunch time closing probably protects small family businesses (and it is good that someone does somewhere) which otherwise would otherwise face unfair competition from larger places which can afford enough staff to stagger their lunch hours

Easier to fine Pharmacies that are open than the plethora of drivers with no seat belt,talking on phone,or motorcyclists no helmet etc
