Re: Demographic Changes
Thank you munchy for above. I will try and sort out pictures of the full pipes and drums of 4th Scottish Tank Regiment when they were here and played every Sunday with many tears ar sundown with their Amazing Grace. I probably know you well but the nickname doesn't ring a bell, but thank you again.

Re: Demographic Changes
I remember a Scottish Regiment marching down Girne High Street with pipes and drums. It was quite an experience! Perhaps it was the same one.
On Friday afternoons , a platoon of the Turkish Army used to march to the Ataturk Memorial by the Dome Hotel and lower the flags - very carefully lowering the Turkish and TRNC flags at the same time and speed. Perhaps they still do? I used to sit in the cafe opposite with coffee and cake and watch. They wore white spats or gaiters (no doubt someone will tell me the appropriate military term) - and goosestepped.
I have photos of both, and several albums of those times, but dont hold your breath for getting them on here, because first I have to find the pics then scan them onto the computer - and then learn how to put them here!

The Army do still change the flags every Friday at 4pm with soldiers and army band The cafe you mention has gone to make way for the Casino extension, we too used to sit in there until we could hear the soldiers marching down past the Dome Hotel.

Sorry may have the wrong cafe, do you mean the one on the corner, it was the Three Brothers I was referring to next to the Casino.Ragged Robin wrote:woodspeckie wrote:The Army do still change the flags every Friday at 4pm with soldiers and army band The cafe you mention has gone to make way for the Casino extension,
