Ipad expert?
Anyone out there who can help set up an IPad to download TV programs and films so that I can give to a friend in hospital?

I use an app called AVPlayerHD. I download films/programs to my laptop then you send them to the iPad over your wireless internet connection. The films/programs are then stored on the iPad for playback with no internet connection needed. I think I paid £1.99 for the app but it has been well worth the money and is very easy to use. Failing that, BBC Iplayer is very good too but can be quite slow to download, even with a fast internet connection.

Re: Ipad expert?
When I had a spell in hospital two years ago I was downloading Homeland and other programmes
A fellow patient had an ipad there was no way that the mp4 could be uploaded onto ipad
Another patient had a samsung tablet which would accept input via a usb adapter though the charger point
My wife has a nexus 7 it will not accept usb input but my samsung phone with a usb adapter will
Conclusion is that some tablets and phones will accept usb input which is the only way forward ora removable sd card
I used an acer aspire which cost £230 and took usb input so unlimited ability to use usb input

I'm no expert, but I use a program (free) to download from bbc and itv, which converts the video for the ipad, You do need to use a vpn at times (one provided by MM is fine).laptatony wrote:Anyone out there who can help set up an IPad to download TV programs and films so that I can give to a friend in hospital?
If you have a Mac, the programme is http://tom-tech.com/iplayer_automator/i ... mator.html
If Windows https://squarepenguin.co.uk/wiki/winsetup/
(I have no direct experience of the latter, have just heard about it).
If you already have programmes/films downloaded, there are various free video converters, which one to get depends on your computer.
Also, if you already have iTunes, am sure there is something in there that can convert stuff to enable watching on the iPad.
An article on how to download movies without using iTunes.

You can also download stuff from YouTube which can be converted for the iPad. Programme that I use is

There are various downloaders for using on Windows, am sure that someone else can advise.
Just saw this and thought it might be of interest too. There's a bit at the end to show you how to download directly from youtube to ipad.

Sorry I missed this post. I have no knowledge of these apps, but if you can already download programmes from them, then I would think that a video converter would be what you are looking for, or iTunes to convert. You cannot install and download those apps to the iPad, unless it is jailbroken, and that is way beyond me.laptatony wrote:Looking to see if I can use Showcase or Genisis as I do on my abroid box
Might be better downloading files of a smaller size for the ipad, unless of course it's one with plenty of storage space.

Re: Ipad expert?
Its not cheap but could solve your problem
A usb that's also a wifi station
You load films onto the stick for your friend that charges the stick
The stick can then be identified by your hospitalised friends ipad when you take it in and either drop the films or shows onto the ipad or stream them from the stick
