Just a question have the prices gone up? I'm sure they were 300tl for 3 ton last year?

well we are on an island were the main fuel used is wood and there is no real replanting program to replace what they chop down so as it gets scarcer the price go up, what we need is for the government to allow the import of coal again from turkey for the short term help until they can come up with a better alternative

You're right Jock - 33% increase is obviously a rip-off, I think that Andrew is either on commission, or he's got more money than sense

If they increased it by 33% every year, then in 5 years time we'd be paying nearly 1,700 TL for 3 tons - it would be cheaper to burn the banknotes!

Locals would not pay that sort of money - even if they were asked to pay it, they would haggle - it's expected.

I think it's just a 'try-on', to see if anyone is daft enough to pay it - I never ever pay the asking price for anything - they think that you're a mug if you do. Tell them "Too much money - go away"! (Çok Çok Para, Gitiniz).

Mind you, they hate me in Lemar...Image

Well I, for one, will certainly getting quotes from 3 or 4 log sellers, and playing them off against each other as usual, - you can pay the asking price if you want.

Can I send my man round to you? - I should be able to wrangle 20% commission out of him if I can give him a customer who will pay whatever he asks!

Any other takers? - I could be getting my wood for free at this rate Image

What no one seems to have picked up on is that you pay different prices for different types of wood. I don't know what the wood is that's being advertised, but know that carob and olive wood (which is slow burning) is more expensive than fast burning logs.

This was the advert that was posted last year on 44
Yes it is that time of year when we have to start thinking of the cold winter months and the log fires.

Wood is going to be very expensive this year from the forestry as they are not cutting very much olive.

As usual our log man from Guzelyurt is offering free delivery between Guzelyurt and Catalkoy.

Prices this year are 350 TL for a lorry load approx 3 ton of mixed citrus and 700TL for olive wood.

He is so confident that if you are not happy when he arrives he will not unload.

Call 0533 8470144

50 TL is not that much of an increase when you consider the diesel increases.

Is it just me, or do these two statements appear contradictory?

- and 50TL would get me to Lefkosia and back twice at least

Just to clear up any misunderstandings our log man from Guzelyurt does not speak very much english his drivers even less so because we have always been happy with the wood he has supplied to us we said we would be happy to help him with the translations. The phone number is my husbands. The log man lives in Guzelyurt so that is where the deliveries are made from so yes free delivery between Guzelyurt and Catalkoy anywhere after that then he charges extra for the dielsel costs and the extra time. We make nothing out of this just trying to help a decent man earn a decent living.
This is the 4th year we have helped him and in all that time i think we have only ever got a couple of complaints but you cant please all the people all the time.
Wood is going to be in short supply this year so whoever you buy from buy early or you might end up very cold in the winter.
Another point is that at the end of last year the goverment changed the rules regarding log deliveries. They used to be able to get a monthly permit, that was then reduced to weekly now they have to go and get signed permission for each delivery and if they are caught without the signed paperwork the wood is confiscated. Our man works for the forestry but also sources his own supply from private people that is how he knows that it is going to be hard to find this year.
If anyone is interested in buying from him please phone 05338470144

I can't resist ''having a go'' here. I haggled with my regular supplier as I don't need wood yet and got 25tl off the load so I ordered one load, when it was delivered did I get the ''lorry load'' of 2.5tonnes for 275tl? Who knows what a ''lorry Load'' is? I can't help feeling I'm being used whatever I do. If I haggle I get less wood but it may look the same. They must have good scales that can measure the ''extra'' half tonne [or is it ton?] Perhaps there is a weighbridge somewhere close by they use to verify the paperwork already mentioned. Am I a Mug - probably. Oh but! olive wood weighs more than pine but a load of old dried out pine should look twice the size/volume of fruit and Cyprus pine in my log store, mmmmmm! Its' down to trust and honesty. As for wood being scarce this year, there is plenty of tree lined avenues all over the place. last year a pick-up stopped at the end of our road and sawed down two withered trees and had them in the back of the truck ''just like that''. All the neighbours were astounded and thought someone must know about it but ..... no. It's good to see the business spirit is alive and kicking oops! sorry, sawing.

So, is the price 400tl or 350tl? These posts have confused me.
