Has anyone out there recently gained citizenship ( who is married or partner of a TRNC citizen).
This only applies to spouses of citizens.
I understand that the laws have recently changed and it is no longer necessary for men over the age of 50 to complete National Service here. I have heard that a letter has to be obtained from the MOD inWhitehall stating that National service is no longer compulsary in the UK.
This letter has to be stamped and signed by the TRNC consulate in London and a £25 stamp fee paid, & to verify that the letter is genuine. I am looking for someone who has recently completed this process, especially someone who managed to complete the process without returning to the UK.
My visa is due for renewal but I am not planning on returning to the UK this year.

good luck with that, Phil. I know there was one case on the recent list of new citizens, but I cannot remember who. I am sure someone in the office oculd look it up, as they may not be members of KibKom. On the other hand, maybe someone reading this will know who it is and contact them. as I say, Good luck. It might be worth asking Immigration if this new rule is absolutely TRUE!

Thanks marion, i believe that there is a new law concerning this, it just seems stupid to me that you have to go back to the UK to do the paperwork at the High Commission. So I wondered if anyone had actually pulled it off from here. There may be someone out there who can help!

I'm doing this and it is correct that you have to get something that says national service is not compulsory, or pay 2000 pounds or so, but I think you can get a letter done here, though I'm American and not British so there might be a difference. Also it's not just over 50s, I'm under 30 and they said that as long as national service is not compulsory in my country I don't have to serve here.

It's crazy isn't it?
Surely they do know which Countries have compulsory National Service, and which ones don't!
If they had more than one brain cell, and a bit of initiative, they'd Google it
