Processionary Caterpillars in Catalkoy

Just to say saw first sighting of processionary caterpillars today in Catalkoy. They were in an olive grove near Sah supermarket and nowhere near pine trees be aware

Eleanor, I also reported them recently in Catalkoy, on the airstrip, again no fir trees in sight so where are they coming from one wonders?

Lots of them in the trees in the mountains above Catalkoy and have seen some today crawling over a wall - nowhere near pine trees either. Last year I found them nesting in long grass as well. Keep a good eye out for them and keep your dogs on leads when out walking, very dangerous to pets!!

We have lots also in Alsancak. As I understand,after leaving the nest & doing the procession bit they gather into a nest,bit like a cow pat before they go separate ways. I have actually killed 3 of thes type of gatherings this year. As is said very dangerous to pets & not too clever with humans if the hairs are ingested.

Just replied on the other thread, they are VERY dangerous to pets. Our neighbours dog very nearly died a few days ago. Had to go on a drip, and very poorly. Another half hour and he would have been dead, so the vet said. He either ate, or tried to eat one. Be careful, they are very dangerous.
