Podiatrist-Prospects of setting up a practice?
Hi Everyone,
Our son and daughter-in-law are thinking of moving to the TRNC in the future.
Our son can continue to run his UK business online with a monthly trip back to the UK but our Daughter-in-law is thinking of setting up a podiatry practice.
She is a fully qualified NHS Podiatrist who also runs a part-time private practice.
Doe anyone think there would be enough private work in NC to earn a reasonable living? Not having used a podiatrist I have no idea what the demand would be like.
Thanks
Rosie

The demand is there but as far as I am aware she would only be able to operate under the auspices of a medically qualified Turkish Cypriot who would of course require an ongoing fee.

She would require a work permit, agreement her medical insurance would be viable here (doubtful), agreement from the TRNC authority and a business plan.

My answer would depend on where you want to set up.
Amanda Harding is a qualified podiatrist and works here and may be of help but if you are going to set up another practice on her doorstep that may be another story!!

Thanks for your replies.
I'm sure that my D-I-Law would do everything 'by the book'.
I think she just wanted to try an ascertain if there was enough work to provide a living for her in the TRNC.
I'm sure she doesn't want to tread on anyone's toes (pardon the pun!!!) by trying to poach clients, but one UK trained and qualified podiatrist surely wouldn't be able to service the needs of a growing older population? I'm not trying to suggest that any TC podiatrist's aren't equally as good-before someone berates me!
Thanks
Rosie

Rosie, for my 2p worth. There are a number of beauty salons here as I'm sure you know (even though you obviously don't need to use them). There may be an opening for a podiatrist in one of them or at one of the huge complex hotels springing up. Most outlets offer all manner of treatments ranging from the tip of the head to toe nails and lots of places in between. Just a thought, it might be an avenue to explore prior to their arrival.

Re: Podiatrist-Prospects of setting up a practice?
There is no such profession as podiatrist or chiropodist in Turkey or here, both sexes go to beauty salons for a pedicure as suggested above. They do have a foot clinic at Lefkosa Hospital however which employs UK trained personnel (for no wages!)
It is a good idea to go around the various establishments to see if they have any opportunities but please be very aware that however big the company they do not necessarily keep their promise of providing a work permit & the wages are very low.
It will not be easy for her to earn a living here but good luck to her I hope she succeeds.

I seem to be having some problem with PM's so I have sent you an email-just in case it goes straight into your spam box.
