He has been transferred to a prison in Turkey having paid £5 million in compensation and £2 million legal aid, the Ministry of Justice said he can now be transferred as he should be punished but not at the expense of the British Public, he was sentenced to 10 years in 2012

His mums house is being refurbished and a new build is taking place inside the walled enclosure at Catalkoy as well - won't be long now before he is back then the roads will get fixed around here as well - lol.

He served more time in jail than the likes of Stuart Hall, what does that say about priorities in the justice system.

After arriving in Turkey and attending court, Nadir was transferred to Silivri jail to the west of the city, the state run Anadolu Agency said.

Since he requested a move to Turkey to finish his sentence, will this actually happen?

Doesn't mean to say he is on his way back to the TRNC yet - unless he is going spend the last 16 months of his sentence under house arrest at his palatial home.

We must remember that a lot of people also made a lot of money from their dealings with him, none of them did any complaining.

There was a lot of murky goings on in his trial and sentence I personally think he served time for a lot of others who gained much more. As posters have said he served more time than others who committed more serious crimes. As regards money lost when you see lately what recompense is taken from people that have stolen millions Nadir paid back a huge amount. The question is will he keep quiet or tell us who else was behind his demise.

"Asil Nadir was released in Turkey on Friday, Dogan news agency and other local media reported.

Nadir was freed after spending just one night in prison in Turkey having been extradited from Britain."

So much for my earlier comment!!!

The report suggests that Nadir has been released on parole after serving half his sentence. He would be free to travel unless there were parole restrictions. I can't understand the reference to extradition; for what crime committed in Turkey?.

Maybe something to do with the request to be handed over to Turkey. The UK Government were never going to deal with the TRNC. The guys out and nearly home(in time) that's all that matters to some and Asil Nadir of course.

I happen to know one of the London Stock Exchange regulators and discussed Nadir with him recently. By his account Nadir was an out and out crook, maybe he was stitched up by other crooks but that doesn't mean he was innocent. One theory was that he thought with the Tories back in power he would get off but he miscalculated - the English legal system is not as corrupt as the Cypriot ones. It's rather like what happened to Orams, the authorities in the north of Cyprus thought that by engaging the British PM's wife they would win the appeal.

There was a lot more to his story than Polly Peck one of his companies was used y the CIA to fund arms and our government was also involved so your chap in the stock exchange only saw a little of the story.

He probably did but Nadir's LSE dealings showed him up as the crook he was.

Can you elaborate and say exactly how your 'friend' was able to make that judgement, or are you just mudslinging?

What about the front page diatribe in the CT then? How the editor can look at herself in the mirror in the morning with anything other than shame beggars belief. The man is a convicted criminal, not a saviour.

But doesn't he own the paper?

I would love to have read that.

Of course the family owns the publication. However, unbiased reporting and publication is the sign of a 'free press.' How many front page articles has the CT produced on the expat and TC property scams, where has there ever been meaningful investigative journalism published, has the CT ever named and shamed the scammers throughout the property industry in the TRNC? All rhetorical!! Rather read the toilet paper motiff.

No I can't say exactly and I'm not mudslinging. This regulator was an accountant who had years of experience investigating similar frauds and thefts. Nadir was interviewed by a panel of experts that included my friend who, from experience, knew that Nadir would try to set the agenda for the meeting and steer it the way HE wanted it to go. Apparently Nadir was out of luck, the meeting didn't go his way.

Several books have been written about Nadir, I can recommend "Asil Nadir and the rise and fall of Polly Peck" by David Barchard a journalist for the FT. It's full of details and well researched.
