Hi,
We are planning a drive across to the South to visit Polis. We believe there is a crossing point to the west of Guzelyurt.
Does anyone know whether you can purchase car insurance for the south at this crossing point?
We have only driven across via Metehan in the short time we have been here and we would'nt want to try another crossing to find we can't buy motor insurance for the south and therefore not be able to cross.

Yes, it's called "Yeşilırmak" by the TCs and "Limnitis" by the GCs.conkin wrote: We believe there is a crossing point to the west of Guzelyurt.
We have crossed there, but we were coming from the south. I googled "Limnitis car insurance" but no information came up. It's quite likely that there is no GC insurance office there. The crossing there is really for the GCs in the Polis and Kato Pyrgos areas to get to Nicosia, and I presume very few TCs would want to cross to the south there.conkin wrote: Does anyone know whether you can purchase car insurance for the south at this crossing point?

Unless someone replies with a definitive "yes, there is an insurance office at Yeşilırmak" my advice would be to buy it at Metehan.
We liked Polis ...conkin wrote: We are planning a drive across to the South to visit Polis

Thanks Ian,
We'll play it safe and cross via Metehan.

We have just tried to cross at that border while we were over. You could not get the insurance unless you have had insurance prieviously from the Metehan crossing. If you have an out of date policy, you can take that and you can then get the insurance. There is only one place to get it from and that is on the Turkish side, the little man has two computers one for T C side and one for G C side. The gentleman was very sorry he couldnt help but rules is rules as they say.

There is also a crossing point above Guzelyurt at Bostanci / Astromeridies. Insurance is available at this location during office hours only, monday to friday.
Apparently there is an insurance agent selling insurance for the South in the village of Yesilirmak. The chap lives opposite the Coop shop but I don't have any details at this time. As it is such a long way to go, only to find that insurance isn't available, it is best to play it safe.
I will try to get the chaps phone number / opening hours on my next visit to my wife's village, hopefully next week.

Philyesil, because of the mountains it's very difficult to drive southside from that crossing to Polis.philyesil wrote:There is also a crossing point above Guzelyurt at Bostanci / Astromeridies. Insurance is available at this location during office hours only, monday to friday.
Getting the agent's number in Yeşilırmak would be best ...
