Sanatation problems creating smells
We are having a problem with smells coming back up through the shower drain, we assume from the septic tank. Anyone out there who can offer advice or knows of someone who specialises in this area?

Local bellidiyesi will empty it for a small charge.

I would suspect that your shower doesn't have a trap as a bath does, allowing the water to drain. This could be your problem

Recent or always smelling?
What type of sanitation system do you have? Cesspit/3 tank system for irrigation etc
Is your soil pipe vented properly?
As said above you may not have a trap in your shower waste. Chop up floor replace with suitable trap and re tile.
I can come and have a look if you like? I used to work for The Property Centre in Alsancak (yes I should have known better!) and have built up a good knowledge of buildings out here and used to maintain their sanitation systems. I was a builder in the UK with plumbing and electrical qualifications.
Cheers

This occasionally happens with wind direction the pipe thats vent the cesspit may be near the shower widow or the comes off the shower pipe
Then the smell happens .
The search of internet will save you a fortune

Also you can flush a large pot of yogutt gives the sewarge something to work on

I had a similar problem thinking there was no u-bend in the shower drain, but this was not the case.
Do you have a toilet in the room with the shower? If so, try sealing all around the base with sealant, this solved the problem for me.

Always keep a bottle of diluted bleach by drains in bathrooms. In high winds the traps dry out and if you pour half a bottle of the solution down the drain - thus refilling the trap the problem will be solved

As pr Billywiz - we too have same problem in upstairs ensuite. We also think no 'trap' - to stop the smell we have to run the shower tap for a little while!

Re: Sanatation problems creating smells
We have this problem in one of our bathrooms. In our case the drainage pipe from the shower joins the one from the toilet, and when you flush the loo it sometimes sucks the water out of the pipe to the shower hence emptying the trap. Most vexing, we have to top up the shower trap with a bit of water after every flush. Only solution is to get a separate waste pipe fitted to the shower, hence having to completely re tile the whole bathroom.

Re: Sanatation problems creating smells
All our shower trays came with plugs (strangely none of the sinks did), if you're not using the shower for long periods put the plug in the plughole. Obviously, it needs to be a tight fit. Definitely stops the smell with no further action. Top tip for lazy buggers like me
