Question about UK Passport renewal

I need to renew my UK passport, however i also need to travel over to the south weekly for work, does anyone have experience with this and if so how did you go about it so that you were still able to travel over to the south ?

Get a letter from your works stating the requirement for a second passport, then send that along with your documents, I have had to do this for the last 20 years as I worked overseas

Thank you for the reply, so if i am to understand you correctly this would mean that i do not send my old passport? so how then do i fill in the online form which requests that i return my old one ?

If you state in the letter that your requirement for a second passport is because of a current visa then you do not have to send in the first passport, just fill the details of the passport in but do not send in the passport
