Does anyone know if the State hospital in Lefcosia take payment by cards or is it cash only, and where do you make the payment, is there a central cash office. TIA.

Hi Elizabeth,
not sure about card payment, but the pay office used to be downstairs.

I've always paid cash - but maybe cards are acceptable.
The cash office is in the main hospital building. When you enter there is a foyer/reception desk and then you can choose to walk down either the left or right side of the building. Take the right side, past the cafe, past the lifts/stairs and eventually you will reach the Vesne.

They certainly didn't used to take cards but now some government offices, like the tax office do perhaps things have changed. Best thing to do is ask at the hospital and report back. I do remember having to go to the cash machine to draw out enough month get my brother released a few years ago.

We paid by credit card when collecting blood from the blood bank at the Lefkosa state hospital back in 2014.

If paying cash, make sure that the receipt you get is for the amount you pay. The nasty so-and-so in the office tried to give me a receipt for £120 when he demanded £200. So, £80 in his pocket.
I called the deputy head of the hospital, who insisted he give me a receipt for £200. He was most upset, and argued the toss with the Doctor for ages. In the end he altered MY copy of the receipt, but I doubt there was any change to the other copies.
He may not be there now, but please be careful.

Just to confirm in case you have to go there that they do take card payments. My husband has just been in there for five days and the treatment he received was excellent, I had heard so many horror stories but he couldn't have been given any better care.

Re: Payment at State hospitals
Good to know that they take card payments. My brother was in for 9 days over a Bayram holiday and for most of the time had the ward to himself. He was very happy with his treatment. I had an operation at Lefkosa 4 years ago and while it's very basic and quite different from the UK, the doctors are the same ones who operate in private hospitals. I was happy with the treatment and the care received.

I have started a new post about experiences at Lefkosa state hospital as their are some interesting points raised here that merit discussion away from the original point of this post.
