Re: taking car to South
This is covered in the BRS website. However, my recollection is:
The registered owner needs to go to the Metehan crossing with the car documentation (kocan and TRNC insurance, national driving licence (DL) and passport). The RoC MoT Dept will then issue an annual registration car document. This, and the the fee (currently €25 per month), is presented to the insurance booth where 3rd party cover is issued. Only registered owners can register the car in the RoC. Provided the additional driver has a national DL, insurance can be provided - I think. Check with the BRS site.

That sounds about right to me, Tom.tomsteel wrote:This is covered in the BRS website. However, my recollection is:

I think that the €25 per month insurance is only 3rd Party - i.e. 'legal minimum' - so will not cover damage to your own vehicle if you are deemed to be 'at fault', nor will it cover 'Recovery' back to TRNC if the vehicle is not driveable. You would need to check with your TRNC insurer that these contingencies are covered...

Hello yes 25 euro for insurance which is 3rd party cover. Which covers you if you crash in to some one. But your car is not covered if someone on the south smashes up your car on the south. This is what happens when the Elam youth see a tc reg car. They like to stone and attract tc cars if there is enough of them. Be careful be safe.

The office that issues the white paper is now only open Monday to Thursday and they close at 2pm.

You don't have to have the registered owner of the car at the border to get the tax form or insurance & also the insurance does get cheaper after 3 months , I think it's 130 euro for 6 months , I go over this weekend & will check the price . I've done the above several times , the last time was about 8 weeks ago & as far as I know that's not changed.

Hi rugged, if you have the time, could you just check about the owner not having to be present the first time that you arrange insurance - as i have found that they normally ask to see the passports of all named drivers. Of course, things do change, and they are inclined to make it up as they go...

Re: taking car to South
The registered car owner does not have to be present to get MoT papers on the south
You will need the Kocan, and Tax papers from TRNC, You will also need a valid Driving license.
I was in the process of buying a car and the documents were not signed over yet and I was able to get the papers. this was only 3 weeks ago
I cross every day
Be advised the insurance provided is only 3rd Party but provided you have fully comp the insurance companies on the north can provide insurance for the south but you need to have this added to the policy.
