If you use a VPN, you can still access Wikipedia...

I just connected to Wilki. I have Multimax VPN but I had not "switched it on".

RR that's interesting - are you sure that it is an up to date page that opened (rather than a copy of an older page that may have been stored (cached) on your computer during an previous visit to the website? - and did you try clicking on any of the links to see whether they actually worked?Ragged Robin wrote:I just connected to Wilki. Don't fret if you don't have the time to check, but I would like to know if possible

Yes Keith I am fascinated too as to what is happening. Yes it is up to date - the first item on the page is the announcement that Turkey had blocked Wilki! It also offers me a choice of various - eg Wilkie Greek and Wilkie Cyprus.Keithcaley wrote:RR that's interesting - are you sure that it is an up to date page that opened (rather than a copy of an older page that may have been stored (cached) on your computer during and previous visit to the website? - and did you try clicking on any of the links to see whether they actually worked?Ragged Robin wrote:I just connected to Wilki. But having tried a few times (see what I do for you? ) it is erratic - sometimes it connects and sometimes I get the site cannot be reached notice.
I have tried going direct to Wilkie and doing searches which connect to it, and the same seems to apply.
When I do connect the VPN for watching TV, I have to reset several times during the evening - I understand that this is because the antennae seek the best "station" (is that the right word?). Could this be something to do with it?
Or is it just my notorious lack of rapport with anything electrical and particularly electronic which tend to throw fits when I appear!

Re: Turkey blocks Wikileads
RR thank you, that was really helpful - I was intrigued because using the 'wikipedia App' on android devices (as opposed to a p.c.) , I occasionally connected, and found that some links worked, while others didn't, and then sometimes it would not connect at all.
Using the same method as you (typing the address into the search bar on a p.c. or clicking on a search result, I couldn't connect at all unless I used a VPN, whereupon everything behaved normally.
I conclude that the blocking method which is being used is less than perfect, and is somewhat random in its effect.
Thanks again, you are relieved of duty, and can return to your normal activities

Re: Turkey blocks Wikileads
I've used Wikipedia a few times today, researching various people and subjects - no problems whatsoever! Out of curiosity, I've also googled Wikileaks and then clicked on the link presented - this has then opened a Wikileaks 'home' page showing 'Featured' items; the latest is dated 28 April, and it appears that items are highlighted on a weekly basis......
I'm in Karsiyaka at the moment, and I'm not using any vpn...
