Our water was off for 5 days in Yesiltepe, apparently they were waiting for a part from Turkey. All ok now but Belediye did offer to send a tanker for free.

I'm in Ozankoy too and seem to be having water on for 1 day in every 3 at the moment. When I queried the diminished supply a few weeks ago when it was off for 4/5 days I was told it was because of a pipework problem. We are still not on Turkish water although the price indicates that we are!

Mim2, We live in Alsancak and sometimes its true, sometimes its not true. I do know there are leaks, here there and everywhere. I have a theory about the so called Turkish water, but I'm not a deep sea diver, so it's has to stay a theory.

In Karsiyaka it's on 24/7 but we are a stone's throw from Gecitkoy reservoir, so only right really!

We asked about the Ozankoy water last week and were told a pump was broken, in the mean time the water we are getting is coming from Catalkoy and certainly not the Turkish water we are paying for!!!

Don't know how you are getting water down from Catalkoy? When I asked in the Catalkoy water office I was told we only got it from time to time because a pump was broken - maybe there is only one pump between Ozankoy and Catalkoy then - lol. How do you know that the water you are getting from Catalkoy is not Turkish water anyway - is it a different colour?

And this irritates me since they doubled their price from about 3TL to 6TL per tonne about twelve months ago based on the costs of the water from Turkey!!! So who is pocketing the extra 3TL per tonne??

Ref message 10, apparently Turkish water is far cleaner and has less lime scale in it however as we are not getting it as stated by the Ozankoy Beldiyesi staff we don't really know, what we do know is that we are paying for it.

HI Paul, yes I did wonder about that as Lapta had spent a fortune on the new well at Seviltepe, which they said would give us water for many, many years. I suppose they have a right to recoup their outlay before we get to use the Turkish water. Either way it's nice to have constant water wherever it comes from. The water in the reservoir is maintaining its almost full level so the draw on it can't be the whole of the TRNC yet.

I believe the reason for the increase is primarily to offset the revenue loss when going from a flat monthly rate to pay as you go with the installation of the new meters. I guesstimated that the rate should have been at least 5 TL per tonne just to keep revenue about the same level before the pricing change. I bought 40 tonnes @ 3 TL and if it has been 12 months as you say then I have used 19 tonnes over this period of time which works out to less than 5 TL per month ... far less than what I had been paying before which if I remember correctly was 25 TL per month for up to 10 tonnes. For the homeowner that does not live here full time as I do, then their annual cost of water could be less than mine.

The pipeline alone from Turkey costs about 1.6 billion TL ... have no idea what the distribution network will end up costing once it is completed but I am sure that it will also be a nice chunk of change! There is no way that this cost can be passed on to the consumer but if the water makes it to Israel as intended, then this project will be a money-maker for Turkey.

As a matter of interest, is the new Turkish water flowing to the farmers? I thought one of the major objectives was to irrigate the land and increase crops. Is that working? Can the farmers afford to pay for it?
