Teknogold Be Warned In Advance

Be warned! We purchased a hair dryer from Teknogold Alsancak. After 2 weeks the hair dryer was dangerously over heating and smelled of burning. We took it back yesterday to be told that company policy was to send the hair dryer for repair. It came with a 4 year guarantee. Despite it being brand new they refused to exchange it. We were told that we could have it back in a day if we went into Lefkosa into the walled city and waited around for it, otherwise it will take 1 week. The customer service is absolutely nil. There is no way this can be repaired as it is seriously faulty. The assistant did not even write down what was the matter with it. I assume their repair department will switch it on, see it is working and return it. The problem being it needs running for sometime, then it overheats and stops.
Just so you all know, before purchasing anything from there, as they do not tell you company policy in advance. We will not be buying from them again as there are other places that give amazing customer service.

To be honest, we have found this in other shops too. A faulty kettle went back three times to China bazaar before they ended up giving us a refund.

Most Items purchased in North Cyprus only come with a manufacturers warrenty, which means it has to go for repair to them, the shop is not obliged to replace the Item.
This also happened to me in the south with a pair of Sony headphones, they had to go for repair.

Maybe I have been lucky. I have lived here 9 years and the service we have had has been amazing. Teknogold guarantee for a year and manufacturer 4 years. Probably naïve, but a large store such as Teknogold should know by now that their customers require good service in today's climate.

Had been looking at their Laptops last week, but now not so sure about going there.

Will probably go back to my usual people for anything electrical as they guarantee for 3 years and have honoured it every time, without fail, Shame about Teknogold though, as they do have a great selection of stuff.

Very wise Sophie. A Cypriot customer told my husband that if they exchange things without permission from HQ then it is taken out of their wages. Not sure how true that is.

I bought a pair of pruners from Marshalls near Catalkoy and within 10 minutes use they broke.
When I took them back Marshals (straight away) told me that they do not do exchanges.
I took the broken pruners to another hardware shop (the name escapes me) and they recommended and sold me some slightly more expensive ones, but gave me a 30% discount because they probably felt a little sorry for me.

1. I will not be shopping in Marshals again.
2. I will be revisiting the second hardware store.
3. With certain items it is probably worth asking beforehand about the returns policy etc.

I bought a built in fridge from Halos, about 3 months after the guarantee expired I had problems with it, Halos came and took it away, fixed it and re fitted it into the kitchen unit at no cost.

Although their stuff is quite expensive I would recommend Halos to anyone

Dave C. Have found this to be true of Halos, Arcelik and my favourite Blomberg shop, regardless of what I've purchased and how much I've spent.

Staff at Teknogold say if they replace without permission, the cost is taken out of their wages. Wow, what fantastic employers.

It used to be the tale (don't know how true!) that in the company/chain- owned petrol stations (here in the UK), if someone drove off without paying for fuel, the person on duty had to pay for it! Whether it is/was true (and still applies?) would be interesting to know.....

Have had fabulous service from Eldip karsiyaka, The parasol shop, karaolanoglu. bend over backwards for good service. Eldip always go out of their way to help us. Sirdas in Lefkosa for beds and mattresses, Arcelik all brilliant service. I will update for Teknogold on Monday when I ask where the hair dryer is, probably still sitting on the chair where they put it without any name on it or what the problem is!
